LCR 225 Manifold

Hi Guys,

I recently got hold of a second hand manifold for an LCR 225 - its going to be sanded down and polished, but the inside of it is covered in oil - can anyone recommend how i go about cleaning the inside of it?

Not being the most knowledgable of car parts i dont want to do anything which would ruin it. It looks like the whole internal part of it has a very thin coat of oil (or just dirty).

Is it a case of just flushing water through it and ensuring its dry? Should i use some sort of household chemicals to help remove the oil? (as i can imagine getting a brush inside would be a nightmare!)

Thoughts appreciated.

Gunk, petrol, diesel, fairy liquid anything like that.

Just don't put it in the dishwasher - well if you do, take it out as soon as it's finished and give it a good rinse.

So would it be perfectly ok to shove a hose inside it along with a small bog brush ? (and as you suggested fairy liquid etc..)

Also i was told prior to sending it for polishing it would be easier for them if i stripped the powder coating off it... so i magine a good coat of Nitromorse - and wet 'n' dry should be ample?

I used to clean the exhaust of my old 2-stroke motorbike out with caustic soda, that’s good stuff! Another way which is much more fun (and dangerous) was to pour petrol in the exhaust, then set fire to it! It usually went bang and shot flames out – great fun!!

Thanks for the input guys. As you say probably best to give it a good clean after the polish... just a quick question - will i suffer from any rust problems when having the manifold polished? Im not sure what kind of metal it is...

And after seeing Forge's sponsored cupra, im liking the engraving of the seat logo on the manifold hmm..
