LC Std Exhaust Question / ticking at idle

Hi all,

I got a 53 plate Cupra at the weekend and have a couple of quick questions;

- the previous owner claimed to have changed the exhaust back to standard but I've looked underneath and the middle pipe is a different bore, I suspect a bodge. I'm going to get the middle replaced with standard. I know the standard cupra backbox is double exit but should the actual box be oval/spherical or rectangular/square? Mine is the latter and want to check it's correct!

- On tickover I can hear a faint clicking/ticking sound, I've only noticed this since I got the car and is more noticeable after I've driven the car. Is this just standard for turbo cars or something I should worry about? I've never had a turbo car before, just big lumps so I'm hoping this is just a turbo thing?

I had a quick look in the search but may have missed an obvious answer, apologies if I have.

Cheers

Not sure about the exhaust question - can you stick up a photo so the Cupra boys can help you out?

Regarding your second point all the 1.8T engines have that ticking sound on idle.

Thanks for the reply, I was fairly certain the ticking was quite normal but it did panic me a little, I budgeted for exhaust work but not engine work :)

I'll try and get a pic up of my exhaust over the next couple of days, it isn't a huge problem but I don't want a bodge fix, I want it correct so she can breath properly.

Re the exhaust, the standard exhaust tip is twin exit circular as per the image below, which implies that the exhaust was not swapped back to Std. if you have a different sized mid-section, and square/rectangular exit pipes.

PS - Image taken from Readers Rides section...forgot who's it was, but thanks...;)
PPS - You won't believe how hard it is to find a pic of an LC with std exhaust
:lol:

Yeah, it's got rounded tail pipes but the actual box is square, not rounded. I've seen a couple of Leons out and about but when I've gone to have a look underneath at the box I've always found they're bloody modified!
