Ko3s or Supersprint

Am in tweaking mode at the moment and am definately going for a remap soon. My Ibiza 20VT is standard at the moment and was looking for the most cost effective way to get to a reasonable power level (about 220hp)

I know I need a filter and recirc valve and will definately be opting for one of the preferred remaps (Custom, Revo,Jabba) but would I be best investing money in a dp & race cat, cat back system OR Ko3s conversion to go along with my map?

I have just been told that a ko3s conversion wouldnt really see much of a gain for what its worth..

As I understand it, it's pretty tough to get more than 220 from a remap, an induction kit, a recirc DV, and a (full system) exhaust, but you should get roughly the 220 you are looking for with those mods. Even if you are a few horses short, you can do the little things to get one or two more horses, such as performance plugs and leads, etc. Then it's the turbo issue, and if I've read correctly, the K03s gives you the ability to utilise higher boost levels, which should (I would think) depending on the boost, give you at least another 20 or 25...this is what I'm hoping for anyway, so if any experts want to put me right, I'd welcome the info...With all of these mods, the K03s and a FMIC, I would expect at least 245 at the fly, and would be disappointed if this is not the case...

I was going to opt for ko3s and remap but I spoke to awesome who said not to bother with ko3s, get an exhaust instead or go all out for the ko4 conversion that they do. Problem with that is that I would still need exhaust, tip, cat etc so the total all in was about £2700 which is way off the mark of what I want to spend.

Well, for me in greece, it's a little easier in one way...my cat is going straight in the dustbin, and the government won't give a sh*t or even notice, but I understand that's a bigger deal in the UK...

Personally i dont think the Ko3s is worth it for the amount of money that you have to spend on it to get it right.


Might as well take the standard ko3 as far as you can, which doesnt take much money or just save for a proper turbo upgrade, ihi or Gt28rs.

I disagree. Went out with Tony20VT (i think banned now though!)at the the PTS R/R day in Luton. He has got the KO3s with the works he was R/R'd at about 234 BHP and somthing like 280lbs torque!! It was pretty mental and i would say that it was probably worth it torque was amazing!!

I'd have to agree, If you want to run IHI and a GT28RS reliably then you will deffo need to uprate your clutch and gearbox or running an LSD or both (Easily a few more ££££). I think KO3s offers a happy medium rather than the full expense of IHI etc

Doesnt seem worth it to me.

From a standard cupra it costs, and change where i've got it wrong...


£700 FMIC
£250-400 KO3s
£500 remap
£450 3"downpipe and race cat
£145 tip
£45 Fitting Kit
£?? fitting, 4bpr?, injectors?


So far its 2k for lets say 240bhp, when you can get 200 from a standard remap on a Ko3.


So for another 1k ish you can get 350bhp from IHI or otherwise.


Worth it?

If you can offer me an IHI kit and everything else required to put the power down (gearbox, LSD, Clutch, etc), for 3 grand I'd snap your arm off...

By the way, what's this 'tip' thing?

Well it aint gonna happen with all the extras, maybe i'm being synical but i think your gonna get a turbo upgrade then do it properly and go for something bigger, if your gonna spend over 2k then whats anotehr 1k on top?

Like he's said, you can run a KO3s for the 2k mark pretty well.. no real reliablity issues..
IHI is what £3500? and you WILL need those other bits and pieces Phil you know as well as anyone with your mate and the golf. I'd say the best part of around £5.5-£6k all in.
I could afford the KO3 upgrade, but I really wouldnt want double or even triple my spending for IHI.

I agree with you, if you do it you gotta do it like my mate gary has, but even then you run into problems.

I was just basing my figures on power facts, and not including the other stuff that would make the car reliable, but do you think the standar box and clutch will be ok with 24bhp and 280lbs of torque tho?

I think jabbasport do the IHI for under 3k.

If you're talking about either a K03s or a turbo back exhaust then there's no decision to make... without the turbo back there's not much point in changing the turbo anyway, if you did all the mods above without the DP I bet you'd still be a way off the 235mark as the DP is sh*t. Do that first then you can always go for the turbo later. Btw, you don't really need to do these hardware mods before you put software on the car, and have you thought about your suspension or brakes yet... as the stock stuff leaves a little to be desired!

Dont get me wrong, I would love 340bhp from IHI but I do think KO3s has something to offer. The people with it seem well pleased with the performance?

It was in Rally Sport Direct in Port Talbot havin the clutch fixed, but hes havin a problem with his map for some reason, not runnin near enough boost, i think hes takin it down to see Grant on saturday to see what they can do/suggest. Hes taken the nitrous out now coz its killed his... engine mounts (snapped clean in half, quaiffe box(ruined 3rd and 5th cogs) and the latest thing is the clutch plate

A power run out of the thing would be nice.


If revo ever need a car to run new software on it will be this one, shame they don do a map for a 1999 Gt28RS conversion on a mk4 golf.

i,ve got the ko3s and with other mods im happy with it, but kevs right i only noticed more when i replaced the down pipe and cat with a straight through, and i,ve not had the stage 2 revo yet. but it holds boost lot longer on normal revo

with the K03s people have to remember its not just peak figures its the increased power band, with the k03s I made 240+ beyond 5krpm with still 210+bhp at 6krpm.... K03 would struggle to achieve 200+ at 5rpm. Plus K03s seems to be more reliable

However as Kev said they do go together (i.e. fmic or similar and DP/cat) as the turbo flows more air so requires it to be exhausted quicker and more boost generates heat therefore fmic
