Turn left - knock, turn right - fine

Just the one knock (or heavy clunk if you want) from the rear passenger side whether you are pulling away or just turning left at any speed

Searches came up with all the usual stuff like loose wheel nuts, bushes worn, ARB (if fitted) loose or broken spring

Jacked up rear passenger wheel and had a shake - nothing, took off the wheel and shook all nearby components and nothing, stuck my head in and had a nosy, found this

Rear spring was unseated at the base?

The spring housing base was still solid and not torn away but the bottom ring of the coil was sitting a shade over and unseated, I've not jacked up the rear of the car in the three years I've owned it (never had the need) its a daily driver so never seen a track with me, everything on it is stock no mods, front has only ever seen a jack on one side at a time for tyre changes, haven't hit a crest lately whilst out commuting either before you ask

Any idea why this would be? Just wondering if its a Leon/mk4 Golf thing or just a one off thing?

I took off the lower shock mount bolt and dropped the rear frame on that side and with some effort prised it further down and managed with a pry bar to "pop" the spring back in its place, shock back on and frame back up and its seating fine

Took off other side rear wheel and obviously the spring was sitting fine

Will take it out tomorrow for a test but any ideas on why this happened?

I like problems that are known and expected or simple to explain, I don't like the ones that are none of that! :help:
