key wont come out of ignition

i cant somtimes get my key out of the ignition unless i start the engine again and then switch off. its a 2006 leon 2.0 tdi sport 6 speed tiptronic. it has to be in park to let the key out, also the green light comes on when my foot is not on the brake so that works ok. the remote works fine unlocking the doors ie 1 push for drivers door and 2 for the rest.the steering lock wont come on as the key wont come out. its got me baffled so any ideas guys????

i am not turning the engine off before putting it in park.

Car must be in park. Make sure the steering wheel isn't locked as it will mean the key won't come out. When you park and it won't come out, give the steerin wheel a waggle when you pull out the key... maybe?

if you switch off engine before putting in park you have to switch back on again then put into park and release key

It happens when you turn off before going into park. Switching on- not starting- releases the interlock. stevesulsh is right.

I get this problem with mine but I just pull the steering wheel sideways a little then key comes straight out.Guess its just the steering lock.
