Key problems

Right i've read various threads on here about keys and i'm still confused.

When I bought my Ibiza it came with a non remote key and a remote key that wouldn't start the car. The remote key casing is damage and there doesn't seem to be a chip which is probably why it won't start the car.

So I removed the key as it was usless and just have the remote fob wihch is in good condition. Problem being that I have to carry the non remote key to start the car and the remote for the central locking etc. I'm worried about loosing the keys and having no spares. Soooo I bought a remote of ebay and it didn't work, the guy swopped it for another one and I still couldn't get it to work so I cut my loses and got my money back and though forget it.

This week I phoned a friend of mines work collegue who does replacement keys. He said I need the 4 digit code to get a replacement.

I phoned Seat and they said i'd have to fetch the car down and plug it in to order a new key (£120) and then take it back when the key arrives to code it (another £21). So I asked can't they just give me the code. Nope the guy said they don't know the code the computer will just program the key.
Bugger that I thought, too expensive BUT now my remote fob won't work Worked yesterday morning and then wouldn't 2 hours later. I used the ordinary key to get in the car yesterday but today the bloody locks were frozen so I couldn't open it. Tried de-icer too. This is at 5.30 am and -4oc So I thought i'll go round the passenger side. BUT would you believe it there's NO BARREL on the passenger door so I had to climb through the boot.

So i'm gonna try new batteries in the remote EVEN though it looks to be working fine. Could it be the sensor on the car??? Do they tend to break.

Don't know what to do. I don't want to spend £120 + on a key for someone then to say oh you should have done this and got it for £40.:help:

I went through all that crap mate with needing a new key. ended up at the dealers in the en becuase nobody else could do it. bite the bullet i'm afraid.. if you have card protection policy (CPP) you can get it done for v.cheap through them seen as you 'lost it' ;) check your documents mate, you might be surprised what might cover it

Might be too late but you can get a cable and software from ebay for £40. Look for VAG K+CAN Commander. I've added a flip key to my 2004 Ibiza and one for a 1998 Passat V6. The software looks through the immobiliser to find the PIN or SKC (5 digit number but first digit is generally 0). The SKC is only needed to add new transponder keys to the immobiliser. Timpsons can also clone your existing transponder

The remote fob part is separate and can be programmed by a sequence of pressing the buttons but it can be hit and miss.

Thanks mate, yes too late. I tried new batteries but no joy so I rang Seat and took the car up. He has ordered a new key for me. I've paid for the new blade and chip (£41:cry:) Its booked in for monday at 2pm to have the new blade and chip coded to the car and they will see if they can get my old remote to work, if not they have spare remotes so will sort that too. God know's how much that will cost but its £21 + vat to code the key to the car which isn't all that bed but bloody annoying when you know how cheap the blades and remotes are on ebay.

I'll just be glad to have my remote key working. Thanks for the help, oh n my brother has the VAG com disk, he just never got round to plugging it into my car:(

I bought two off Ebay and couldn't get them to work. I tried 2 different sequence things with the keys but no joy. I gave the guy all the details of my car and he assured me it would work but it didn't.

Well I got my new key today and I have to say the dealer was great. They fixed my remote so I only got charged for the new blade and chip. Ok it wasn't cheap BUT it was cheaper than a complete new remote and key. Cost me £26 for it to be coded. Ah well its done now. Thanks guys.

some keys are infa red and some keys are radio frequency they'll look the same tho but wont work u can tell if its infa red tho becaues it sorta sticks out at the bottom of the fob, its the infa red one we need, and i think u can use vagcom to get the skc code and vag tacho to recode it, you have to make shure its a new chip in the key tho or it wont work.

Not sure how they fixed it tbh. But it was very honest of them. I told him I had replaced the battery after it just stopped working for no reason but it still wouldn't work. They used the diagnositc to code the chip. The guy said that sometimes when the battery dies and you try to open the car with it froma distance it scrambles the programmin?? How true that si I don't know but its fixed now so i'm happy.

I'm trying to sort a mate's remote but it won't pair for some reason. We get the flashing light on the remote after trying the button press method but it doesn't sort it. I've got a feeling the remote is duff but don't want him to buy one until I can prove it's knackered.

There was a problem with the central locking so I've replaced the immobiliser module and the original key started the engine. What are the chances! The central locking works using the key in the door but the remote just won't pair [:@]

Mine does it too. Take a few steps back from the car and try. It works for me.
