Right i've read various threads on here about keys and i'm still confused.
When I bought my Ibiza it came with a non remote key and a remote key that wouldn't start the car. The remote key casing is damage and there doesn't seem to be a chip which is probably why it won't start the car.
So I removed the key as it was usless and just have the remote fob wihch is in good condition. Problem being that I have to carry the non remote key to start the car and the remote for the central locking etc. I'm worried about loosing the keys and having no spares. Soooo I bought a remote of ebay and it didn't work, the guy swopped it for another one and I still couldn't get it to work so I cut my loses and got my money back and though forget it.
This week I phoned a friend of mines work collegue who does replacement keys. He said I need the 4 digit code to get a replacement.
I phoned Seat and they said i'd have to fetch the car down and plug it in to order a new key (£120) and then take it back when the key arrives to code it (another £21). So I asked can't they just give me the code. Nope the guy said they don't know the code the computer will just program the key.
Bugger that I thought, too expensive BUT now my remote fob won't work Worked yesterday morning and then wouldn't 2 hours later. I used the ordinary key to get in the car yesterday but today the bloody locks were frozen so I couldn't open it. Tried de-icer too. This is at 5.30 am and -4oc So I thought i'll go round the passenger side. BUT would you believe it there's NO BARREL on the passenger door so I had to climb through the boot.
So i'm gonna try new batteries in the remote EVEN though it looks to be working fine. Could it be the sensor on the car??? Do they tend to break.
Don't know what to do. I don't want to spend £120 + on a key for someone then to say oh you should have done this and got it for £40.
