key fob not working

Been told my transponder has gone as the key flashes but the car doesnt respond?i have tried resetting it by holding the key fob button but still no joy. i have to keep locking the car with the key but the central locking does still work.

where is the transponder so i can change it and where can i get one from?
any help would be helpfull.

I can open the doors but cannot lock em!! The red light comes on but nothing happens its been off and on for a few days now is it the same problem?

well mine went like this then stopped working completely.it started by having crap range, like i had to be standing right by the car to unlock it then it went to only being able to open the car, now nothing at all!!! changed battry in key fob and have a good red light but no reply from the car.

I think I have narrowed mine down to a faulty connection in the drivers door

When its not working and I push the lock/unlock button no noise after slamin the door a few times I get the lockin noise n the fob works.

I think I read somot about the location on a search.

what is the thing on the passanger side of the roof? by the B pillar i thnk it is?

thought that was the receiver?

I know you said you tried resetting it by holding the button but have you tried the reset method which is in the manual? It's been many moons since I had my MK3 but I had to reset it several times. It was somenthing like ken in ignition, hold lock button for 10 secs whilst watching red light flashing then press unlock or similar.

I'm sure its in the manual if you have one or a search on here will find it.

I have the same problem - was fine this morning then I got out pushed the key fob lock button and nothing happened only the red light flashed so changed the battery in the key and its the same. I have done a seach on this forum and tried everything thats listed and also what the manual says its really weird how this has suddenly stopped working. The key still works fine if I put it in the lock so its not too bad just hassle if im carrying things ect so if any one out there knows how to fix this please let us all know I have a 2001 cupra. If not I will have to take it to the stealer as wont it working as it should be. Seems a lot of people having this problem with there seats !!

Hi mate, i have exactly the same problem, i have tried about 5 different ways to no avail. can you please tell me what worked for you???

turn ign on to red light comes on immediate turn off ign pull key out hold the lock button down press open button 3 time like 1-2-3 red light will flash . turn ign on to red light comes on wait 5sec take key out try operation. i had to do this twice it worked for me its like how its say in manual book only different is turn key to red light comes on then turn strait off cause in manual say turn once but no turn it so you get red light.
