K1 and Cupra tuning - on a budget!

Guys,

Have a K1. Love it.
Just watched Top Gear on Tuning an Renault Avantime for a set sum of money. In these times of watching the pennies (!), I wondered what would be the best VFM tuning for a set budget??
I have a Superchip already, and highly delighted with it. For £120 (upgrade, not outright purchase), I have gained 50bhp or so. I see Awesome Tuning do various breathing pipes, along with a replacement front downpipe but what benifits for their outlay would be best?? Lets say, for a budget of £1000, what would be the most effective way of increasing "fun factor", not silly things, but good honest VFM for BHP??
Maybe the guys at Awesome would like to comment? Of course fitting costs need to be factored in.

So, to summarise, the best tuning "package" to increase bhp & torque for a Grand...Fittted!!

Any thoughts??

My opinion is that you get an upgraded pump, with map for std car and uprated pump only. If the prices come down of the pump / map combo enough I would also suggest a downpipe with sports cat as well. I figure that may tip you a little over the £1000 budget but means you have mid range grunt of a stg 2 car without the additional parts that are normally required for a stg 2 car. I would rather have the 300 ish power ranges in the middle of the rev range where I tend to have fun rather than outright top end speed.

If you wanted to stay on the budget, pump and map would be best bang for buck in my opinion.

Sorry Plummy, might have misguided you there.

I have already got Superchip, I want to spend about £1000 more, NOT including a chip in that price.

So a fuel pump, how much, fitted. As a guide of course..And what benifits would a pump on a chipped car make?

The main benefit is that the fuel pump can then supply fuel at 130bar instead of the factory 110bar. This means that you can then fully exploit the turbo from 2.5 / 3k onwards in the rev range instead of waiting until the revs are a little higher, allowing the fuel pump to deliver enough fuel when the revs are relatively low. This would mean the superchip map would need to be adjusted to take advantage of the extra fuel that can be supplied from 2.5 / 3k onwards.

Pumps available (part only, fitted I could not tell you, however I would confirm the prices as I have not looked into it recently)

APR Pump - $500?
KMD - £150?
Autotech - £250?

Search for these words in the Mk2 section and there will be lots of posts / information on it. This has also been seen on the various VAG group forums where our Cupra / K1 engine is present.

I am sure someone will chime in who already has one installed.

I would argue that with the pump / revised map and then adding in the S3 intercooler (if you fit yourself or tell djhorace you will buy him a top end curry ;)) you could fit that into the budget too?

Autotech pump was £306 fitted by JBS, dbilas air intake £300 fitted meself, then save up for a Milltek with 3" dp...

I would do what Igor23 suggests. Get the upgraded pump, adjusted map then get a downpipe and sports cat. Std car will flow for 310hp on a stg 1 map so no need in my opinion.

upgraded fuel pump and intercooler would show the next biggest increase in power after a remap, however you would have to get the map adjusted accordingly.

Is there a specific type of fuel pump that's needed? how do I select? Do they look like the factory 1?
Thx
