I was quite stunned at just how good my MPG has been over the past week, over 431 miles I averaged 69.83MPG (calculated - see here for weekly figures).

The interesting thing to take away from this is what was different this week to all those since the start of the year.. Because of the good weather, on my drive home I've tended to have the windows open and the climate control turned off.

Does it really make that much of a difference? It certainly looks that way given this week I used 28.08 litres over 431.3 miles, however the week prior I used the same amount of fuel (28.07 litres) but drove 372.3 miles (which still gave me 60.3 MPG).

I am using Shell Diesel Extra with Millers Sport 4 Diesel additive (sometimes double, sometimes single dosing)

Has anyone else noticed a similar trend?

Thats impressive, is yours the 100BHP?

Id like to try shell diesel sxtra but its not available at my local shell garage.

What kind of driving is that over? motorway, and driven steady or fast?

Mine's the 1.4 3-pot TDI 75 (with Revo, so circa 105BHP). The other variant is the 1.4 3-pot 90 which remaps to about 110-115BHP.

The roads are urban and country A-roads. Through the towns (3 of them) it's the usual stop-start type conditions, the A-roads are national limit mostly with cruise control set in the region of 50-60MPH

not too much "riding the torque" then? lol

wish the mitsi had cruise, that can do kick ass numbers with ease, but it's not so easy using the throttle.

Haha

I'm not driving like a camping and caravan club member either! I regularly have to overtake stuff and there's a by-pass where I floor it everyday, but the CC does make a difference on the rest of the journey as it's hard to just fettle the throttle as you say

What can you get out of the 1.5 in the colt?

up and around the numbers you're seeing really - hoping for a 600 mile range next month. it'll sit at high 50's to 60's on the motorway at 75-80 once warmed up, at cold it's pretty crap though, so no use for round town.

nah, no OE option as far as I know.

I'm sure I could find the pin-out & make up a switch panel though.

Ian, that's pretty impressive stuff.

I never found the climate control on the Ibiza to make any difference to MPG, but it does in the Passat - plus I can hear the engine revs dip when I turn it on, that never happened in the Ibiza.
