Just been looking on autotrader and seen this white cupra 16 valver for sale its a reg newer than mine but that engine dont look right to me,

Ive been looking for a 16v for our lass as she's after one (and have incidently found one!)

It really is unbelievable how many people advertise GTi's as 16v's and then you look at the engine bay picture and its blatantly an 8v!

Crazy!!!! good thing i spent a day browsing web before i brought mine gettin as much info as i could, the great thing for me was the trader i brought it from couldnt find a price guide so sold it to me for the glasses price of a lower model happy days

However, there are clearly people that are not aware of the differences, thus this thread.

Perhaps you could list a very short and easy guide to spotting an 8v or 16v engine?

out of intrest anyone get a pic of a 1.8 16v to compare to the 2L.. be like spot the difference..

am i right in assuming the 1.8 is basicaly whats in the mk2 Golf.. KR?

spoiler usually gives a 2.0 valver away if you can't see an engine pic (subject to it not being changed)

1.8 16v had 8v type spoiler and 256mm brakes aswell

I saw loads that were advertised as 16v's when I was looking last year. I bet there are lots of people who buy them and don't know.

go on then,spot the difference(apart from the bloody obvious)

the most obvious thing i would look for is not the engine

angle that the inlet hose goes in at is the give away.

As is the 020 gearbox

why the inlet pipe though?taller block?
