I put a deposit down on an 03 LCR just over a week ago and the owner said it would be 2 weeks max until I could pick it up, which was fine. The reason was because there was a private plate on it and they wanted to keep it and put the original back on. So I put my car up on autotrader earlier this week and it sold yesterday and is getting picked up on the 11th which should have been perfect timing for getting the leon. The thing is the owner of the leon told me yesterday that the private plate is now off and is now waiting for the reg certificate to come which could take up to 4 weeks! If there is nothing I can do I don't mind waiting, I just wouldn't of thought it would take that long to change hands, or is it likely to come before that? Can the car not change ownership until this has come back? Sorry I don't know much when it comes to all the legal documents!

Can anyone explain this to me please?

cheers

all the owner has to do is put the private reg on retention.... they can then obtain the new certificate fot the original plate... shouldnt take 4 weeks at all.

ring dvla and ask for the procedure on this and obtain a timescale on this

i think the owner is waiting for another car for themselves tbh.

a mont is a long time to sort this.

the car cant change ownership until it is registered witht he old plate again, but still shouldnt take that long.

ring dvla and find out mate.

I'd tell them to sort it or F off to be honest.
You should keep looking for one in the meantime as I'm sure you are.

The owner has to wait for the V5 with new original number plate on it to come back from the DVLA. You wont give you this directly from the DVLA office when you put your plate on retention.

I have moved my plate four times now, and it normally takes about 2 weeks for the V5 to come back, although they do state 4 weeks.

From the sellers point of view hes not going to give you a car without having the V5 document to sign it over to you. That would be suicide on his part.

The owner said that the plate was sorted out last week but it could be 4 weeks for the reg certificate to return. Can that be done at the DVLA office as well then? Isn't that in Swansea?

cheers

You can go to the DVLA office to get it done. however the new V5 document is not given to you then. You have to wait for that to come through in the post.

Well at least I don't have to wait another 3 weeks now because I'm picking it up in a minute! The log book came back within a week, which is good because the wait was killing me :D

Well I've been driving it pretty much non-stop since I picked it up :D the first thing i noticed is how different it is from drivin a N/A engine car, like on the motorway driving back, it actually pulls in 5th gear! something my focus wasn't very good at. As you can see it's an ovni yellow lcr, the 210 model, 44,000 miles. It's seems to have been well looked after, full seat service history, water pump and timing belt changed, all doors sealed to stop that common leaking problem. The only thing is, there are a few places where the colour is very slightly faded, I'm assuming it's due to the sun over the years and the fact it's yellow? might put some t-cut on it to see if that helps. Overall though I couldn't be happier

Hi Mate dont T-cut the paint work pay a bit of money to get it machine polished and detailed properly... I had a BMW M3 in red detailed and it looked fantastic, what ever you do please dont T-Cut the paint work mate it could make it worse/swirly etc..... i think a pro detail can be had now for about 150 - 200 quid there you'll get wax coats, wax finishers, machine polish, hand polished all in one session and it really does work mate the machine polisher usually gets paint work like brand new
