Just Bought a 1997 Cordy GTi

Hi All,


I used to own an Ibiza Gti 16v, and since the sad day i sold that car i have never been the same (hopefully you know that feeling).

So when i saw what looked to be a mint condition P reg Cordy GTi selling I drove 300 miles upto Hull and snapped his hand off for 800 quid.


It has done 91k with FSSH and has just had a new clutch and tyres. The car is literally perfect - unmarked all round with perfect paint and the engine runs sweet as a nut.

It is in the Tornado Red colour but has all of the facelift bumpers and grill etc as it is a 1997.

How rare is this particular model? I certainly havent seen any of these around before.

Could someone enlighten me to its full spec (engine code) extras, BHP etc as I am a sucker for technical details!!

The GTI is a 2.0 8V 115bhp (if i remember right)

Had a GTI myself ( my first Seat ) Tornado red polishes up to a really deap shine which looks the muts nuts...

As Tris says, it's a 2.0 8v 115bhp, but isn't really any slower than the 16v.

does it have the horrible 3 spoke alloys on it too?

Only ever seen three of them and they have all seen better days, you might have a future classic there.

There was one going on ebay last year needed a lot of work tho that was red as well

I think the GTI only came in red and white.

Nice purchase, im loving my Cordy at the moment. Id go as far as to say its the best car ive owned to date (or certainly a close 2nd with the VR6 Highline i had), and ive owned a variety of Mk2 Golfs, Rallye, VR6s etc. I still need to get some pics of mine up too.

The Gti is a 5-door though isn't it.... unlike the 2.0 16v SX Coupe

yep will be getting some pics up this weekend at the latest. Ive got a set of black BK Racing 5 spokes in the garage which ill try and fit first.

Also needs a good wash to do her justice - but will have some pics by sunday at the latest hopefully.

Still worried about the clutch cable though - only changed 800 miles ago and its creaking real bad - pedal box looks sound from what i can see, creaking seems to be comnig from furthe up inside the bulkhead??

I think the GTI only came in red and white.

I think you could well be correct there, my mate bought a new one in white when they first came out. He had it specced out with the optional accessory five spoke 15'' wheels and it was a really nice car (apart from those nasty interior door pull handles we all know so well!).
He got it remapped by BR Motorsport who were the then 'official' SEAT tuners.
Sold it after a while to buy an MX5.

All that typing just to say I've only ever seen red or white ones too!!!
Would love one of these for a family hack right now, not seen one for years though so come on chaps get the photos up!!!
