its a cat...back...so u mean remove the mid silencer (the cat is on the downpipe, hence 'CAT BACK')

and that is perfectly legal, and will increase sound, but unlikely to make much more power, maybe a tiny bit

now.. replacing the downpipe and cat (which connects to the 'cat back' system) with a straight through pipe (a decat) would make it illegal and probably fail the mot emissions test

it would also cause a few problems without the right remap

yeah thats fine, cos the cats built onto it... i have done so (milltek downpipe and sports/race cat)

downside is that cos they come with a new cat, they are expensive

if u got/get revo stage 2 for example u wont get car problems by removing the cat, but supposedly u will fail the mot, so u either gotta put the cat back on, or go to a 'friendly' mot tester who will ignore it

but it really depends whether u meant remove the cat, or remove the mid silencer of the exhaust system

yeah thats perfectly legal but doesnt add up to much...i know supersprint do a straight through pipe on one of their systems

but really the biggest difference should be noise and little performance gain

I have a jetexcat back with the mid silencer removed, and to be honest its no louder than other 200+bhp Ibiza's with similar exhaust set ups.

just brought a jetex with the silencer as i spoke to my friend who runs a mot cetre and he said you could have problems getting a mot as they state it must sound like a standard vechcle also they can fail it on incomplete system, hope this helps

as long as your car doesn't fail on emmissions and has the cat put back on before the mot it can be up to 110 decibels and will be fine, you CANNOT fail for an incomplete system, as long as there are no leaks and all the exhaust rubber mountings are still there, even if it is louder the tester won't take it past fast idle (about 3,500 revs), so if its a good exhaust it shouldn't be that loud. I wouldn't take the cat off as turbo engines are low compression anyway and could cause the ecu light to peck your head a bit as it could read a compression failure.
