Jacking Up

Had a go at the weekend at giving my calipers and wheels a thorough clean but failed miserably at the first hurdle.

Got a trolley jack and stands but the jacking point is on a pinch on the sill, the trolley jack just about lifted the car but with a lot of creaking and the stand just looked like it was going to bend and snap the pinch off. Any ideas? There is only about three inches of reinforced jacking area so not enough room to squeeze in a jack and a stand before one of them ends up in a footwell!

Can anyone shed any light on how to do this without ending up making them part of the car?

Dunno about on your car, but under the engine, there are some hlf cylinderical bumpers on each side of the engine, not far behind the wheels. I put the jack or axle stands on there. First I jack up the car using the seat jack though as my car is very low.

One in the boot is fine. Make sure you jack it up at the right point. I painted all my calipers with the car's jack and it was fine.

As with all things, take your time to position it right and you will be fine

Thanks guys Ill have a crawl around underneath tomorrow and see what I can find, there is so much plastic under there its hard to know whats strong and not. I dont trust the SEAT jacks at all, hence the trolley and stands.

Those TT jacking points sound dead useful - they plug into the holes in the chassis where the car would have been supported in the factory.

I keep meaning to get a set for my car

Theres a round disk just behind the wheel and in abit. Its supposed to be for trolley jacking. I seen a post on here about it and also asked my dealer to confirm that's what it was. I've not used it jet though.

I used the jack that came with car and a couple of axle stands just to be safe when I took my wheels off to clean em properly. MANUFACTURERS JACK IS FINE.They jusr err on the side of caution.I didnt even bother to lower onto stands just positioned them accordingly.

I used a trolley jack on my leon i ve take the wheels off and had no problems.

In facted if you jack it up at the front the back wheel is of the floor aswell

I painted my calipers using two trolley jacks so i've had two wheels of at the same time without axle stands i ve had no problems

Where did you put the jack? The sill seam where the factory jack goes?

Working under the car whilst only supported by hydraulic jacks is just asking for trouble IMO!

Axle stands are a must!
