on the road logging and remapping once reviewing the logs is a very good way of getting it in real life state. Dyno's and loads applied can get things pretty hot, more so than real world conditions.... but the downside of some on the road mapping is finding the right bit of road where you can drive an assortment of conditions, part throttle, full throttle, higher power/wheelspin in lower gears, which means some high speeds. Mine when logging earlier this year post new engine/turbo, would only grip in 5th & 6th, which is significant speeds... (winter conditions, salty roads... but you get the idea.)
Slap it on a dyno to see the end result figures then.

Which would you say is the best way to remap a car then Bill ? Road, rolling road or a mix of both.

personally stink CC stage 3 is a great idea, mapping as you personally drive (as its you who drives it when they map it as you go) and you can do minor changes with vag-com instead of having to buy a switch like revo

Or the nextt best an RR map, they will just advance the timing a bit for road use with cooler intake temps etc :)

I have had a custom 03s jabba map, and personally think its great, had a few teething problems but it seems to have corrected itself now, but cos of past issues, im always thinking theres something wrong! which makes me want to start fresh!

mixture of both, but this will also depend on the make of RR... some being much kinder to cars than others, not forgetting someone operating the rollers who knows how to apply correct loads etc..... Airflows wont be as per roads, but again, some are better fan'd than others.
Power check on the dyno to see how things progress.

When car manufactuers test cars and read logs, they do it while driving, but then again they do have the test facilities to do that. And im sure most people have heard of wheels spinning on the rollers...... There is a company called TDI North who have a new technology. Instead of putting your car on a rolling road they remove your wheels and bolt there device to your wheel hub - this way transmission losses are minimal and theres no loss of traction. But personally i prefer to have my car mapped on the road.:D

last week i brought the best car i have ever driven, an ihi jabba mk3 cupra, most cars i have had have been custom mapped but ive never experienced such an advanced setup from a mapping session, jabbasport have done the work to it and the way everything has been finished you can tell the ammount of passion and pride that they put into a job

rolling road vs real road

The only (and perhaps main) issue with road tuning is the legality of driving at almost (if not at least) double the speed limit.

Whether a proffessional tuner, or a punter is driving, is it the correct / best thing

ideally we'd all live at a run way so we could do all the things we wanted to, but it's not possible

I would think the only solution is to map as close as possible and then do a couple of runs with vag-com etc to check everythings okay on the real road. You could hire Brunters.

I heard of a scooby owner setting his car up getting nicked with the lap top logging etc and they actually used the lap top info to secure a conviction.

Its only what i heard whether its correct i dont know.

hub dyno like Dynapack..
yes eliminates wheelspin, but single rollers, correct strapping on dual rollers can also minimise wheelspin or prevent it too..

When you see a dyno holding a load point, fixed speed and engine working against it to set/check its a/f & egt & power you generate huge heat very very fast. When does your car sit fixed speed full throttle in real life and see the same condition? Awesome's Dynojet does'nt seem to get wheelspin, with powerful cars on it... so dyno's can be usefull for acceleration runs up to simulate road accelerations (loads applied dialed in to replicate as close as possible the real life scenario), and big fans to try and replicate the wind speeds you would see travelling at high speeds in the higher gears.

Lots of variables as ever... and choice of equipment, experience of operators etc.

Combination of both... is the ideal, but not mandatory as many tuners would confirm.
