Guys,

Help a poor old fella with a problem would you? I went to start my Leon Cupra the other day, and all my dials are dead, the rev counter is dead, the fuel gauge is dead, there's no light lighting them, and strangley enough, there is no bleep with you leave the headlights on and leave the door open. Has anyone had this before (apparently its a common fault in Skoda). I've taken the underside of the dash out, and seen if there is any loose cables, nothing, I've also checked the fuse, and its really foxed me. An AA friend of mine says its a "dashboard control module", does anyone know if this will fix it?

Cheers

Rob

I dont know about the module but the entire gauge assembley is one unit, easy to get at, remove the inner lining of the gauge "pod" by removing the two philips screws on the top.

The beeping sound is also generated from the same unit so sounds like a complete faliure either by a loose connection (unlikely as the plugs are tight and they have locks) or a fuse/power cable?

definetly not a fuse

Its definetly not a fuse, and there is definetly power going into the fuse and coming out of the fuse. I took the fuse board out, checked the power cables coming out of the fuse (think its F15 that does the dash board lights), so the unit is definetly getting power. I've had a good push of all the cables around the display, but nothing happens, its just doesn't come abck to life! and the weird thing is, everything else is fine and working, and the car starts perfectly. Even to 2 digital clocks (one is the tacometer and the other is the car computer) work fine as well, and they are mounted in the dashboard display! another interesting thing is, the trip computer, can't work out how much fuel I have left in the car, and can't tell me how much further I have till I need petrol, so I wonder if if gets this data from "A brain" somewhere else that could of died, or the dash itself.

Cheers for all your suggestions so far! keep them coming :) :) :)

hey guys.

One of the things that is common in cupras apparently is they suffer from a bad earth underneath the battery. So, I took out the battery and cleaned up the earth/negtive terminal where it attached to the car, so yeah, I've disconneded the battery. I've also checked all the fuses, and nothing. Its weird!

it might well be the controll module cos mine went and i had no dials fule gage etc, the only troubble is that VW/Seat have 2 recode it before it being fitted!!

Thanks for all the advice guys, I will take out the unit, check for voltages, and I've just booked for someone to see it at VAG wednesday.... lets see what they say...... what happened to the days where cars were simple things, and you didn't need a computer to get the car working again!!!

I'll post back with what they find.

A month on, and I think there is light at the end of the tunnel

A month on, and I think there is light at the end of the tunnel (just not on the dash board/console!)

Took the dash apart, and had a wiggle of some cables..... nothing. Actually took the console out, and wiggled more cables, nothing....... So, had a closer look at the console (when I say console, I mean the clocks and fuel gauge... EVERYTHING), and took a closer look.... and what did I see.... WATER DAMAGE! seems that water had goto onto where the main wiring loom connects to the console, and caused it to short or something. Lucky really, because the cupra immobilizer is in the console, so if I'd lost it completely, the car wouldn't of started (actually, if you try and start the cupra without the console/immobiliser, its starts, then immediately cuts out after about 2 seconds). So we plugged everything back in, and still nothing, and now the temperature failed, and my cars done a total of 63 miles! (the two LCD's in the console didn't work) So, made some calls to SEAT, and it turns out that they had a "spat" of them recently, and had to replace loads, so its going to be a case of taking it down to SEAT, getting them to replace the unit (RRP : £222 + VAT) and get them to program the immobiliser up. Luckily, a friend knows somebody in SEAT, so it shouldn't cost too much....... <<fingers crossed>>

Question is though

1. Other then the console, is there anywhere else, where the mileage of the car is held?

2. Where the hell did the water come from in the first place, as there was definitely water damage on the circuitry!. Anyone know if the cupra suffers from leaky windscreens or other holes?

The guy I sold my leon to has had to have a lot of the lower dash and drivers side wing removed to find a leak behind the dash/dials.

The SEAT guy said he has done quite a few!

Mission accomplished.....

Well, got a new console delivered on Thursday, and fitted it today...... AND IT WORKS! I have a fuel gauge and temperature gauge! So, it was the console after all. Now all I have to do is wait till SLS come and program the emobiliser for it on Tuesday (020-8777-6340). Will post anything interesting I find out.
