Hi guys my first post....

I've just bought a black 01 Leon Cupra with a slightly high 118,000 miles but the main reason was because it has an LPG conversion.

Does anyone know whether I dare get it chipped both due to the mileage and the LPG ?

Needless to say I'm going to have a good search now to see what I can expect Leon ownership to entail.

Must admit it seems a bit rattley compared to my 330 BMW but I'm hoping its more fun and more economical.

Well I've had LPG before on a big yank pick up truck and this is basically the same system.

Its been on for almost 100k so its reliability seems to be proven.

As LPG is less than half the price of petrol and with the ECU controlled multipoint LPG conversions giving only slightly worse performance and economy its bascally half price motoring.

The conversions cost around £1500 so payback depends upon your mileage and mpg.

LPG burns hotter though so isn't suitable for hot engines (like the Impreza) although there are a few scoobies converted but restricted to std 220bhp I believe.

Yep !

Haven't driven it far but I must admit I'm quite impressed with how well its handled the miles.

My test drive must have been on poor roads as it now feels pretty tight and solid.

I wouldn't like to recommend it.

Bit late to return to this....

Dave as I said the conversion has been on for 100k !

I get LPG for around 44p so its almost a third of the price of petrol but it only does 23mpg on it but that equates to 57mpg £ for £ !

I think it should do more on lpg and probably need remapping but I'm intending to get it chipped and the LPG then needs remapping anyway so I'll wait until then.

I know of an Astra VXR pushing nearly 300 bhp and he's having no problems.
