I don't know what they put in it, I provided the uprated friction disc (Helix from allards) and they provided the bearing and cover plate. The part No's are PPDP for the cover plate and PSPD for the bearing. They are a VW specialist so I would imagine they would put the original stuff back in (sachs), because I told them I wanted the cover plate and bearing just to be standard replacement.

I've noticed that I get a bit of juddering just as I finish lifting the clutch up in first gear pulling away. Is that normal? Or should I give them a bell?

Cheers.

When I had my original Helix clutch and SMF - the biting point was right at the bottom and very sharp. But with the Sachs setup, the biting point is much higher than standard!

Just out of interest - I have the helix SMFW and heavy duty clutch - and if anything that judder has got worse over the past 6 months, i was starting to look for answers like gearbox issues, or clutch fluid issues - what experiences have other got of SMFWs and 1st gear only judder?

Its not like the judder i had when my SMFW went - that was a slappy kind of wobble :) I can floor the car in every gear without issue, but if i nurse it in 1st it hates it. If i stand on the go pedel and sidestep off the clutch it goes fine - its just when i pull away normally. The more i nurse it, the worse the judder. Just to check it wasnt the fly again I slapped it in 5th and 6th at low revs and let it have it - no judder or wobble. I can pull off in 2nd better than 1st sometimes!

You seem to be having the same problem that I'm having at the moment, but I still have the dual mass fly wheel. Done the same test as you, floored it in 6th and no judder. It's just when I pull away normally it requires a more revy pullaway to not judder. Is your bite very high up the travel of the pedal? Mine is, I was told that the clutch needed bleeding and apparently this would sort the juddering and the high bite out.
Can anyone clarify this please?

Cheers Rob.

My clutch bites uber low - silly low....

Starting to think that it could be something like oil mist from the gearbox on the fly/clutch and/or a highspot on the fly, as if i cane it, and mash the clutch up i get a perfect lift off, if i nurse it, the judder returns.

I havn't got the time of resources to get the bottom off the car, but i've booked it in to my mechanics (non stealer) to have a look at the clutch/fly for evidence of contamination, and also the gearbox for eveidence of leakage. I'll get him to look at the clutch bite point before doing this too.

Aside this, I refuse to believe this is 'condensation' as a lot of dealers seem to suggest.

Its booked in at Jabba in October for the big turbo, and I need to get this sorted.

Just had a good chinwag with Nick from Jabba - discussing getting the judder sorted before the hybrid, made interesting suggestion that it could be the friction plate/ springs starting to show wear as it ends up soaking up some of the vibes the DMFW would have took out. Reccomended clamping the hub and looking for any play which would explain judder.

Oil may be discounted as Nick suggested the slip would happen consistently, or in other gears.

If it is only the friction plate/springs then this would be cheapish on parts but expensive on hours to remedy.... I will post what I and/or my mechanic finds when hes stripped it down.
