Is this the signs of a dead clutch?

When I hold the car at the bite on steep hills etc, it makes a jarring noise (which i know is clutch related - because it only does it when biting at a certain point) and smoke starts coming from behind/below the engine. It stinks of burning clutch too which is a big giveaway.

My car is remapped to apx 215bhp and has done 70k. Is this around the right time for a clutch to fail?

Also how much is a new one?

Cheers

if you can smell clutch burn and the revs rise faster than it accelerates, time to get a new one id say. clutches are like women, cheap ones arnt necessarily good. shop around, try and get an uprated one too while youre at it.

just had my clutch replaced yesterday, i had been suffering alot of slip and smells occasionally, especially when i booted it

didnt bother with an uprated clutch as i believe the standard Ibiza clutch is more than capable of holding the sort of power im running.

btw my clutch was failing at 50k

the only problem is that the only way to be sure is to remove the gearbox which is at least 100quid labour there

theres talk of other things to try before this but this seems to be the only sure fire method...and u might aswell just chuck a new clutch in there at that point imo
