I wouldn't trust anybody from a forum about if the oil can damage my engine.

I personally use Quantum Platinum, it's what is recommended by my dealer and is what VW/Audi/SEAT use when servicing, so thats good enough for me.

What shop gave you that oil? I get mine direct from SEAT.

It will probably be fine, but for my own peace of mind i've always used Platinum stuff. Runs sweet on it too.

if you run 5W-30 oil, then im sure its a vw spec 507.00 oil and not a vw spec 505.01 oil....

Furthermore, the approvals 504 00 and 507 00 include the following approvals:
500 00 / 502 00 / 505 00 / 503 01 / 503 00 / 506 00 and 505 01, 506 01 *
*) EXCLUDED cars built before 2006 with: V10 and R5 PD-engines in Phaeton and Touareg as well as VW PD-engines without Longlife Service

read: PD-engine before 2006 without longlife service with previously covered by 505.01 = stil needs the 505.01 oil.
and im sure 505.01 is not 5w-30

505.01 is included all the way upto 507 from what i was told also search car here FR150 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ Even Autodata recommends 5w40 or 5w30:)

I got my mate who works in a motor factors to get me oil & filter for my fr 150tdi , I was ready to get stuck in when I had a doubt in my mind about the oil he gave me. It is Comma SYNER-D 5w-40, on the recommended for list it has VW505.00 and not .01, I take it this is the wrong oil ?

As my post above. Minimum oil spec is VW505.01. So you have the wrong oil. And it's Comma....
