Is this a good deal on tyres?

I'm after 4 new tyres for my PD130 and I've found that kwik-Fit are currently doing 25% off Pirelli tyres so I can get 4 P-Zero Neros for £80.50 each fitted. My current set of these tyres, which I rate, have just lasted 18k miles and would probably go a fit further but it feels like the sidewalls are 'giving' a bit now.

Is that a good price for decent tyres?

£320 for 4 tyres seems quite a lot to me. What size tyres are you looking at? 205/45/16's same as mine??

I got 4 Marangoni Zeta Linea's for about £230 although they seem to be wearing quite quick.

Have you looked on mytyres.co.uk or somewhere similar? They are doing the Zeta Linea's I got for £48.50/corner (although I would be surprised if they last 18k miles), Kumho Ecsta Spt KU31's which are good tyres for £56.10/corner or Pirelli P Zero's for £63.40. Uniroyal Rainsports get a good write up and they are £64.40. Even factoring in £10/tyre for fitting once you get the tyres delivered you are still slightly quids in if you go for the Pirelli's.

I would also phone around some local independents as they may be close to some of the above prices. I have never found large tyre centres to be good value for money.

Kwik-Sh!t!!!!! Over priced bunch of muppets. Stay clear. For the PD130 you should be looking at between £65-70 at most for high performance tyres.

I guess it depends where you are. I found a local garage who fit Uniroyal rainsports/Zero Nero's/Dunlop SP9000 as 205/40/17's rims for £60 a tyre so best bet is to shop around small local garages who will do you a good deal.

i only got 10k miles out my nero's, but 10k really fun miles! :D
replaced them with uni royal rainsports, 10k miles on them at the moment and and they still got fairly decent tread but iv been losing grip. got 20k miles on the back original nero's. the uniroyals have been good, but im thinkin of goin back to pirellis, the ride on the uniroyals seems quite harsh.

so i'll be after 4 new tyres fairly soon i think, tread wise i could prob get another few thousand out them but i want more grip. be interesting to know what people recomend?

Thanks for all the replies - all of them are really helpful. I've been trying to track down reviews of Kumho tyres and also Nexen N3000 as these are in the £50 range too. It's difficult to switch to budget brands though - don't know why?

Cheers

I had the Kumho's on my last car and they are excellent tyres. They are not that well known over here, but are becoming more prolific.
I've heard that what they are doing is keeping the price of their tyres down to get sales/brand acceptance and all that, before they put their prices up to what they should actually be. So, if this is correct they are not actually a budget tyre, but are priced as such for the time being.

Budget tyres wise I've also had Kumho's (Ecstas(?)) and Hankooks in the past and they were actually very good. I would stay clear of Toyo Proxes as they are ok in the dry but dodgy in the wet and really didn't last long.

The best tyres I've had (and I've had a lot, my last car went through a pair every 6 months and I had it 3+years) were Uniroyal Rainsports, AVON ZZ3 and the Dunlop SP9000. Also check out Falken and BF Goodrich (think they are owned by Michelin), they do good and decent priced tyres. Winter tyres go for Vredsteins.

Don't even think about Yoko A539's, a spit of rain and the car handles like its on an ice rink, you might as well drive straight off a cliff and be done with it!!

I rate the uniroyal rainsports, toyo proxe t1r's, goodyear f1's and Avon ZZ3, I would never put a budget tyre on my car, a good tyre can get you out of sticky (weel, a not so sticky) situation! :p

Again, thanks for all the replies tyres are one subject that there is a lot of opinion about. I've gone for Kumho Ecsta EH31 at £70 a corner - fitting next Tuesday.

I found the OEM Bridgstone ER30's very noisy and otherwise quite boring. The P-zero Neros were brilliant new in the wet and dry but they are definitely getting soft in the sidewalls after 18k miles. A lot of people recommend the Goodyear F1's and while I found them brilliant on my Punto HGT, on the TDI Sport I think the pattern is too aggressive and doesn't suit the 'Q-car-ness' of the car.

And so I'm reading good things about Kumho so I'll give them a try!

Cheers everyone

I had Kumho Ecstas on my PD130 and I hated them, I upgraded to Uniroyals and didn't regret it.

Currently I have Toyo Toxes T1-S's on my Cupra, they were £55 each from www.topgear.co.uk. Luckily I have a local Top Gear centre so they supplied and fitted them in one go :)

If you're looking for hard wearing tyres, BF Goodrich Profiler G's are the tyres to go for...they grip really well and last for ages!
