Is it worth selling?

Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice really. My 55reg Mk4 Ibiza FR is bleeding me dry right now, spending a fortune on petrol and insurance (aswell as paying for it). Im considering starting to save for a house, and I know the day will come when I have to sell the car to do that. Question is, when is the right time?

Ive had the car 4 months now, its just a tad over 4k miles and im due a free service during the next fortnight. Could I use the new service as a selling point? Is the low mileage going to put people off? After weighing my options up I realise that the best time to sell it is probably after 3 and ahalf years when the residual value of the car is equal to (or more than the loan paying it), but I dont think I can wait 3 and a half years to buy a house.

If I can sell for the right price, I can obviously pay off my SEAT loan (to settle the HP) and the rest can go towards paying my other loan off (and some left for a little run around)...

Has anyone been in a similar position, or have any advice to shine my way?

Cheers for listening,

maybe consider buying the diesel model cheaper to insure cheaper to run but still haveing a great looking car, cupra :) 160, houses are exspensive so owning any car really is going to make a whole in your wallet because if you go for a cheap old fiesta or something ul be paying £££ to keep it on the road basicly i dont know !

The diesel model sounds good to me, but I suppose id have to find someone willing to swap a diesel for a petrol... selling and then re-buying from a stealer will cost me too much I guess..

How much cheaper to run and insure is the diesel model?

Cheers for the advice

i dont think my insurance quotes are gonna b of any help because i got quotes for my cupra 180 and deisel when i was 18yrs old and i poay a left arm for my 10months insurance and a finger or toe a week for fueling her up [:@]

all i know is i get about 200 miles to a full tank (at best of times) and the diesels will get around 300+ miles to a tank use thew search might bring up something

you could swap to a diesel but would need to be an older one as your 55 plate 20vt is worth about the same as a an 04-54 Tdi.

But if you are gonna do it do it this month as Dealers are desperate to do business in december,

But if you are doing low milage then your only saving will be on insurance.

Why not go for a lower powered one for now, save lots more i.e. tax, insurance etc. What about the 130 Sport? Could always get it remapped at a later date. You can pick up a 40k 02 plate 130 Sport TDi for £6500 from Seat Used. As the cheapest Cupra TDi is 10k. You can get a 130 FR as well

Won't be as quick but still be a quick car with a great engine

Insurance on Cupra TDi is the same at 15 as the sport and fr are 5 and 8 respectively

I've not long ago done what your suggesting mate. Traded in my 54 plate 20VT FR for my TDi FR. I do around 12000 miles a year. My tax is down from £190 a year to £110 i think and my fuel economy is at least 50% better. My insurance has practically halfed aswell. I would do it mate, it saves you money and the Derv is a great car, I much prefer it over my Petrol FR.

I probably would of swapped with you if you had a cupra. But as mentioned, maybe an early 130 sport is the best bet if you still want a quick car. Once you have a bit of money then re-map it, and it'd be perfect!
