IS it a write off?

Afew days ago someone reversed into my old ibiza (1.4 salsa 5 door) and smashed the passenger side rear door. My uncle got the registration plate of the other driver and the police and insurance company have been informed.
I was just wondering how much a new door, obviously sprayed to match the car, is going to cost. Im afraid that the insurance company will just write off the car (its a 1996 model) which would be a shame as she is running as smooth as the day i bought her.

Still waiting for insurance to suggest where to go to get it checked. But as far as i can see it'l just need a new door.
How much do you reckon doors cost and up to how much would an insurance company repair the damage. For example, if the damage cost 70% of the value of the car, would they write it off?? I heard this somewhere but not sure if its true!

Well if you go to a crappy then I'm 95% sure you can pick up a second hand rear door for under £100 with the glass. And another £100 tops to get it sprayed.

Well my old ibiza has bumper damage where someone hit it whilst it was parked.. The car its self was worth about £450 and they gave me £380 to get it fixed.

They are normally ok.. You can also ask for a cash in Lieu, that's when they give you the money for the repairs minus the VAT. And the garage should be able to fix it for you cheaper then they will for the insurance company.

ive managed to pick up a door before now for 25 pounds, then you could get it sprayed yourself by a garage... Ive never dealt with insurance before but i reckon what hayz says :) is the best route to take, or if its going to affect your NCB just get it done yourself without insurance

I won't affect your no claims bonus if you deal with their insurance company,

Just out of curiousity who are their insurers?? As it took NU 3 months plus to sort out mine and they didn't even do anything with it, ended up going through the 3rd person involved insurers Churchill and got a cheque in 2 weeks.

Not sure who their insurer is as they did a runner. But my 1.4 is insured with Churchill.
Ill definitely be going through insurers as its not our fault. I think my uncles taking it to get a quote for repairs this weekend so will let you know.

Dont forget tho, event tho it won't your fault, you are still making a claim. And you will have to report that claim everytime you go to get insurance for the next 5 years. And for a hundred quid, I'm not sure its worth it.

Remember that if you submit a claim that you will be liable for the excess on your policy which will be a minimum of £100 and potentially a lot more if you are under 25 or had a full licence less then 12months or you used a direct insurer (they tend to have higher excesses).

Of course this assumes you cannot track down the offending vehicle AND successfully reclaim your/your insurer's costs from their insurer.

remind me of a neighbour who had a hit & run on a scrapheap worthy metro (£100 value tops)

they called the insurance co to get a new wing on the car - insurance co came along, wrote it off, gave them nothing (value was below excess value) and now they have a total loss against their name LMFAO - they're so stupid.

Went out to pick up another cheap ass micra K11, worth about £800 - and paying major cash (like £1500) because they lost all their NCB, have a total loss and still insured it FC

the point of insurance, is to comply with the law & fund repairs that are above a reasonable cost.

If you can't afford to fix it, drive it with a dent until you can. it'll save you money over a short period of time & a long period of time to do that.

If there was no payment made by their insurer then they should not have lost their NCB.

Surely if its not my fault and they do find the other driver then do you not get the excess you pay reinbursed?
Also the policy is under my uncles name (i get to drive any vehicle with the policy on my cupra) so ill see what he wants to do. He may well change his mind if it will only cost £100 to repair himslef.

It is never reimbursed you (or your Legal Expenses provider) have to recover it from the third party insurer.

If you were driving (or the last person to drive) your uncles car then the damage will not be covered under your policy anyway as this cover is third party only.
