iPod / MP3 Connection

Chaps,

I'm picking up my new Altea this Saturday.

Quick question - it has an iPod / Aux-In socket in the centre console. I am assuming the car won't come with the cable necessary to connect my iPod, so....

- What cable will I need to purchase, and where's the best place to get it ?

- Will I be able to control the iPod from the steering wheel controls, and will the tracknames appear on the headunit ?

Ta.

That's a no, no, no, no.... if I counted my no's correctly.

It won't display the tracknames unless Seat have done something to their headends, I dealt this, I asked about my MD changer. That aux in is just an ordinary in as you get on the back off sterios except it connects left and right.

I suspect you'd find the correct cable in Maplins, possibly. May be the manual tells you what the pin type is. It's going to be like what I have on my FM transmitter thingey for using in rental cars. I got one and they are difficult to come by so I read, it came with it. That connects your IPod or other devices.

Basically, thinking about it, if you can plug your headphones into the socket on the radio, then that is what you need, a cable with two males on it like that. That's basicaly it. You don't get the track information sent up that cable.

To get control of the IPod via the steering column you need one of the devices that plugs into the back of the headend which the others will tell you about. You won't use the aux port then.

I think you're right Tell.

Just looked at the Seat website and the Special Edition comes with an Aux-In connection as standard, and not the (£75 optional) iPod connector. Damn.

On the plus side, it does have a few things I wasn't aware of - rain sensors, light sensors & heated mirrors (on my current Altea they don't heat !).

On another negative side (!), it seems the leather seats are the standard seats and not the sports ones which I'm used to. Maybe they've done this to make then last longer ?

Aux in

On a slightly related topic.....I was mis-sold my June 06 Stylance (my fault for not checking) and I have neither an mp3 capable player nor an aux in.

I am looking at a few ways of playing my mp3 collection in the altea - I installed a phatbox in my LCR and think it is great, but want to do something easier in the Altea.

Option1 - new head unit: want to still be able to use steering controls - double din or single, problems with RHD faceplate? Anyone recommend a HU or an installer around Edinburgh (North of)

Option2 - Fit an Aux in - I have searched and this looks like my preferred choice. Am I right in thinking the FF stereo is equivalent to the VW RCD300 and therefore I should use the CTVVGX004 connects 2 cable?

If this is correct, can anyone recommend a shop to buy this at as cheap as possible - I have found a couple online at 40 quid plus - quite dear for a 3.5mm jack!!

Is there an easier way of doing this??

Option 2 it is the RCD300 fitting.

Ipod conversations here BTW where you can control your Ipod from the steering wheel as if it's an accessory:

Mind you, you were not after that, others have been recently :).

This is my seminal works on getting Sony equipment connected to the headend it uses a Connect2 box which is how my MD changer is connected:

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=63758&highlight=sony+changer

That's a Connect2 AVGS009 box that maps the headend commands into the Sony changer commands. Slightly off topic.

Leads try Maplins.
