iPOD head units *with* steering wheel controls

Hi All,

I've got an '06 Ibiza 1.9 TDi FR and I want to replace the head unit with something that's iPOD comatible and allows me to still use my steering wheel controls (vol, pre, nxt, src, mute..etc etc).
I have been loking at the Alpine CDE-9850Ri but I can't seem to find out whether there is a system that allows me to control it from the steering.

Can anyone shed any light on it? Apart from that I dunno if I'm going to mod it further. Nice quick car...fun after driving my billions of kids in my Chinook-like poeple carrier!

Yup, i've got the 9850i - do a search and it'll produce all required answers, i think there is even a link to the place that sells the adaptor that you'll need to do it - it's just a plug in thing and costs no more than £20 if i remember correctly.

Cheers PJ,

But...I've done quite a few searches...maybe I'm being a little too thick here, but I simply can't get the info.
So..you've got it and does it ensure all the buttons on the steering work?

If you can tell me where you got your kit from I'll go and ask 'em what they did. I'd be really greatful!

Cheers

found it within another thread, i bought the same one as deatailed (nearer £30 quid i'm afraid) i also bought H/U removal tools on ebay but they were pants, i'd see your local dealer and see if they won't remove the old unit for you and then you can fit the Alpine yourself - it'll save much hair pulling and bleeding fingers!! lol

Almost all the buttons work, volume, skip, mute and mode all work but the ffw and rew don't....i don't think - but other than that it's all good!

Nice one..seen it..you see, I have been googling and you simply don't get that kind of information through Google..!

Now I need to get the same for me Chinook...I mean Espace...too!
The www.cablesexpress.co.uk site looks like the best bet so I'll put a query in to them..

Cheers for your help PJ!

No probs, cablesexpress.co.uk seemed pretty efficient to me - like i said it's the removal of the STD unit that i had trouble with - but perhaps that was technique :)

The Ibiza DAB comes with a Blaubunkt Nahvile DAB headunit and has an ipod connection and works fully with the wheel controls.

These are for sale from the seat website or you can pick them op on the net. The model number is DAB35

Cheers AEM...hmmm, now there's a dilema! Alpine vs DAB...XFM all over the place and iPOD too for listening when Richard Bacon is on!

Too many desicions now. I'm going to have to have a think. Thanks for all the advice!
