Hi All,

I've finally parted with my beloved Mk2:cry::love: and traded her in for a younger Mk3 Tech Pack:footysup:!

All seems well - aside from one niggling issue...

My iPod classic used to connect via the USB/AUX in the Mk2 using a BMW connector, which gave me full control/functionality.

On my Mk3 however it says "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED" using that same cable.
When I try using the original Apple USB 30 pin cable it gives the same error.

Note that I do not have an MDI port in the glove box, only a USB/AUX connector behind the gear stick again.

I've contacted SEAT who simply said my iPod Classic is not supported by the car; however I find this difficult to believe.

- Has anyone else had the same issue?
- Does anybody have an iPod Classic (Final Gen Click Wheel) that works through the USB port?

Thanks in advance - this is driving me potty![:@]

I find it entirely believable, knowing Apple. I bought a Sony head unit for the other car that didn't recognise my I Pod Touch 5G, only IPhones believe it or not. Swapped it for a Pioneer that works seamlessly.
You will have to use AUX, or upgrade. The Touch has better sound anyway.

Bugger - this is ridiculous! They shouldn't be able to pick and choose which USB devices they support - they should just all work or none!

Do you mean upgrade my head unit, or ipod?

Thanks for your reply.

The other alternative is to transfer all your music from iTunes onto an SD card and use that.

I'm toying with this idea - or trying to set my iPod up as a 'disc' instead of the ipod interface.

The only thing that's stopping me is I like the plug & play feature on iTunes to sync my playlists and easily add/remove music.

Would be a real shame to lose that and have to manually add/remove and remember which podcasts I've listened to etc...

Still - it'd be better than nothing!

IPod. And yes it is ridiculous. Apple, Sony, and Honda all seem to have the same business model - we know best.

I've got the exact same problem. USB device not recognised. It was an iPod classic from 8-10years ago so don't have any back ups. Guess I'll just stick with Bluetooth.

I couldn't believe it either when I swapped my 2103 Mk3 SE for a 2106 FR. Lost the Ipod lead from the glove box and assumed I could use the socket in the centre console ! I was told I would need to pay to upgrade to full link to enable support for my Ipod. I sourced a Y shaped lead online for a couple of pounds. It has an Ipod connector on the tail end and a USB and aux in plug on the top 2 ends for the centre console inputs. It allows me to play my Ipod through the media function and it charges the Ipod, though there is no touchscreen functionality, you need to select everything via the Ipod controls

partial solution

Okay,

I've found a bit of a bandage for this; it's not perfect by any means, but it'll have to do!

There's an app you can download called 'iTunesFusion'.

It will allow you to sync your iTunes library onto any drive (USB/Memory Card/HDD/mobile phone etc...)

I've tried it with a 128gb SD card and it worked fine - transferred my entire library.

You can also pick and choose which bits you want to sync.

I've tried deleting some songs then re-trying, and it spotted the difference and deleted them for me.

The only thing I can't find is my Podcasts. And even when I do find them it doesn't know what I've listened to and what I haven't, and so won't auto-delete for you when you're fininshed.

I guess beggers can't be choosers, and I'll have to lump it, as I'm not paying our £100's for a newer iPod.

I had an old iPod 5 Video in my 2013 Car, it was a specific MDI cable for iPod not the MDI USB with the Apple cable though.

as far as im aware you need the mdi to apple cable - blue colar ones
there are different colours but some will give album artwork, some won't

Bloody Apple! I got an email about the new Homepod which looked interesting. Until I read the small print and found 5th gen I Pods not supported.
They really are tossers. You can't win.
