Intro & supagard advice

Hi,
First post for me - just signed on the dotted line for a new Ibiza FR Tdi, and the salesman wants me to get it coated with supagard. Costs £350.
It coats the inside and outside with a protective layer. Seems very expensive to me. Ive 'googled' it, and seems to have mixed reviews. Some say great, some say rubbish.

Im not so bothered about the inside, but not having to wax it for 3 years (so says the salesman) is highly tempting, and he says that it will protect the alloys from brake dust erosion?

Is it worth bothering about, or should i just buy some cleaning products myself?

Cheers,
Saz

Dont bother with the Superguard its rubbish and will never last 3 years! Have a look on detailingworld and read about it then get some good advice about how to treat your new motor!

Good choice of car! What colour did you go for and did you get any options?

Cheers.

I had it done on my car, but that that only because it cost me around £100 in total which I figured was a fair compromise of time and cost to do it myself. Going from mine it doesn't seem like it does a lot and I reckon not having to wax it for three years is a bit of a lie...

Dont do it!!! I used to work in the motor trade, that superguard stuff is crap, and it costs nowhere near £350, more like £20, the salesman is just trying to have your pants down!! For £350 you could buy some of the finest car cleaning products on the market such as zymol, and get results a 1000 times better than you will ever see with that superguard crap! Just make sure when you get your car, you clean and wax it regularly and your paint will be well protected!! And tell that salesman to F**K OFF and stop trying to make more commission off you lol!! :D

I've got supaguard on mine, but only because they gave it to me free. I wouldn't pay to have it. Whether it was actually applied is anyones guess ;) The bag of cleaning stuff has been quite handy though.

As Dozza said, go and get some decent car care products. It's far more satisfying to do it yourself anyway :)

I bought some p21s wax the other day. Just waiting for it to rain now so I can see the beading.

Thanks for all your advice.
I went for black magic, but didnt get any options. Seemed perfect the way it was. Impressed with the spec on a std one. Much better than many of the other cars i looked at.
I pick it up in a couple of weeks, so you will be hearing a lot more from me.

great choice of car dude!
I can honestly say I've not heard one good word about Supaguard...
I had mine Lifeshined from AutoGlym and that too is a load of bollox. I had to chase my dealership up as when I collected my car it wasn't done, no pack of goodies in the boot or receipt/confirmation. Anyways I booked the car in againr, had everything...but looked truely awful! I paid £300 and kept on hassling the dealer for an explanation as to why it looked so dull the paintwork. They assured me it was done, giving me a time and even the service/accessories record sheet from the servicemen/technitions. I was told that someone had received a free treatment as they had done the wrong car.

I wasn't happy, I shouldn't of accepted the car...thinking about it in heinsight. But hey ho I love my wee beezer and I'm on the look out on how to make my car BRIGHT as it's rather dull...like I said in another thread maybe I should of chosen a different colour!

Back on subject! I wouldn't recommend any paint protection from a dealer, like peeps above have said go out and buy some yourself and apply it yourself...least then you'll know its been done. Most applications are so easy to apply now, that you won't need any professional to help you out!

The seat and carpet protector is actually very good, but it can be bought in Scotchgard form for much less for much more.

The exterior stuff is rubbish though. As soon as you use any kind of soap with degreaser in it, its gone.

I work in the motor trade and thankfully I now work in a garage that refuses to sell it.

Aye, another motor trade worker here telling you not to bother with SupaGuard. Just get a proper detailer to have your car for a few hours and the results will amaze you!

As above really, you can buy a complete car cleaning kit with ALL the tools and products you'd need to keep it looking better than showroom for 3 years for what they want for supaguard.

Or just drive it till it looks scruffy and take it to one of the professional detailers on here :)
