Intro and question

Hello

I've been lurking here for a while but thought the time was right to introduce myself and to ask a question too

I've owned my 53 plate Ibiza TDI Sport 130PD from new and overall it's been good so far with the main faults being the usual ones of condensation in headlights (on my 3rd pair now!) and creaky suspension. I bought it mainly for it's performance and Q-Car looks but now I find I get constant hassle off noddy car drivers who don't know how quick it is so maybe the FR badges and exhausts etc on the latest one are a good thing.

Last week after I started the car I heard a quick 'phsttttt' noise from the engine that sounded like an air hose had burst. I took a look around but could'n spot anything obvious. Since then the idling has been really rough and the car seems to have lost some torquiness. Before I get ripped off at a garage can anyone shed any light for me?

When driving does it make the same nose "phtttt" under boost? aka when the turbo starts to kick in? Mostly likely a ripped/popped boost pipe.

Mine whent *again* for the 4th instance just last night.. and I now need to go clean all the pipe work, and fit it again! Fun fun!

Is it when you first start the key? If so could it be the fuel pump? They all do it

Also, they all hiss slightly when cold - its the air breather or whatever its called - equivalent of a choke for diesels!

The noise is new to me. I'm use to the 'twang' of the ABS pump priming as I pull away but this was definitely a one off noise as I haven't heard it since. It idles at 950rpm but it's very lumpy and feels like it is about to stall, even when the engine is warm. The turbo still kicks in (love it!) but I'm sure it's down a few torques and doesn't feel like it has all 130 horses anymore. My mate has suggested the MAF?
