Intermittent problems getting into reverse

So, as of recent I started having a problem getting into reverse gear. Problem is that, the shift stick will go down, to the extreme left but won't go forward all the way (even with quite a bit of pressure). The other gears work fine. This doesn't happen often. Say 1 in 10. attempts. I've been trying to shift into other gears before reverse but it still happens here and there. The clutch is not slipping yet. Clutch engagement point is at between 1/3 and 1/2 travel point. Any suggestions?

This may have nothing to do with it, but recently I've been having some wiper electrical issue diagnosed and left upper part of the engine bay was taken apart basically. If I understand correctly the gear shifter cables are somewhere below the car battery. Could it be that something is obstructing the cables or gearshaft so that they might have become misaligned or something?

There's rubber bushes on the end of the shifter cables, they deteriorate and make the shift bad.

You might need new bushes.
