Do you guys insure the mods that do on your car? Whether it be tuning or styling? Recently bought my cupra and just about to start moddin it, but im not long turned 20 and the insurance is aleady a bit of a killer! If you were to get hit, or hit the car, does it mean that your insurance becomes void because its modded without letting them know??

I have let my insurance company know of all my mods and expected power and it has gone up by £ 300 to a annual premium of £ 800 fully comp with adrian flux. Next year iam 25 so will come down again.

There is only one advantage of getting older.

If you don't declare mods then your insurance is Void, Yes

im 21 finally got 1yrs NCB because i was on parents policy for 2 yrs before that. since i have had my 1.4 i have done quite a few mods. my insurance with all mods declared is 700 quid fully comp. which for me isnt bad, but i have no points or fines. i cant wait till 25 then comes the cupra

All my mods are declared. Without them - you're practically driving with no insurance. Insurance company's will always try to find an easy way out of not paying up - that's how they make money, so by not telling them about stuff you're making it so easy for them.

Think about it, tinted windows - they'll question your vision if you pulled out in front of someone. Strut brace - front right impact will also (most likely) cause some damage on the left etc etc.

You're best of telling them, i'm sure if you hit someone and you're insurance company didn't pay out, they'd have a civil case against you.
I'm 26 with 4yrs NCB and I'm £475 all declared (tints, strut brace, exhaust, alloys and remapped).

wrote my old cupra off in january, no other vehcles involved, only someones wall. Was insured with Tesco, didnt declare any mods to them, remap, exhaust, decat, alloys, airfilter, brembo,s etc etc. Car got assesed by a Tesco engineer at garage, he knew it was modified, and they still paid out market value for car, must have been my lucky day then !

I've declare my mods and it is very reasonable really. I was pleased when I called Adrian Flux last month to tell them about my fmic, and they didn't add a penny :)

I wrote off my last car which I had modded but didn't declare and direct line still paid up (the day after the crash!)...mods were only exhaust and alloys, but still a result i thought!

also I've made a claim on my cupra, and they didn't check my mods.

I was thinking tho, would an insurance company really know the difference between, say, a k03 or k04...? It's not like there going to put your car on the rollers if you make a claim!

Depends if you hit an Escort or an Enzo I'd guess...

and if - as most Companies seem to nowadays - see their customers post on public forums about their undeclared mods!

*****.

All mods and power declared on a like for like basis with Greenlight. Came out even cheaper than 'normal' insurance with no mods.

The Tesco chap must have transferred from 'produce' for the day :D

Yep, mine are like for like also. (With Sky - they beat Greenlight). The remap only cost me about £30 iirc?! That was far cheaper than Elephant and the like without mods.

Why judge? You are basically driving round un-insured, if you hit and killed someone you would be done for manslaughter. I can judge all i like.

People like you cause people to pay through the nose on insurance when they write their 'un-insured' cars.

I'm being a ***** coz i'm not impressed on what your admitting to.

Nick - It does matter mate - for example if you're driving a standard cupra - it's 156bhp... remapped it's around 200bhp (but looks the same) - It's a damn sight quicker so lets face it - the chance of having an accident increases a little - so the premium will. No matter who you hit. 3rd Party means that they won't pay out for YOUR car... if your policy is void - then they won't pay out for the person you hit either! Which means that a) they'll have lost their no claims because of you, and possibly b) able to claim the money of you personally... which will most likely be more than the 'modded' premium was in the first place.

Oh - and you'll have no NCB so you'd have to start again.
