Hi,
When my lights are on auto and come on it doesn't indicate on the dashboard for some reason as it did , if I flick on high beam it shows up with a Blue headlight sign but nothing in green when the lights are either in auto position or on , any ideas?

Yeah that's correct it was the same on the mk2 and all the VAG cars I have owned. Seems odd at first when most other manufacturers have the lights on symbol in the instrument panel but you do get used to it. A good check to see if your lights are on (other than seeing the reflections of them in other cars lol) is,if you have sat nav, to check if the nav screen is dark.

None of the VW’s I’ve owned have a ‘lights on’ symbol on the instrument display.

In my current VW, I have my lights set to ‘Auto’, otherwise I get an irritating permanent warning message on the instrument display telling me to set them to Auto! I can tell when my headlights have come on automatically before it gets dark as the buttons on the steering wheel are backlit in red when the car’s lights are on, and so are the heating controls. All the symbols around the rotary light control switch are also illuminated when the headlights come on too.

Also, when in Auto mode, if the dash lights come on brighter but its not dark enough for headlights, the light switch and 2 red LED's forward of the interior light switches will be off. When the headlights come on these will illuminate (as well as heater etc.). I just glance at the interior light panel to be guided by the 2 little red LEDs lamps then I know headlights are on even if its not really dark out....maybe poor visibility.

I thought that when the lights are on (whilst set to auto) the green symbol on the dash in most cars is illuminated on the light switch itself. I will check later as been driving another marque for a few weeks.

Yes, I think it is (it is in my VW). However, the light switch in my car is positioned quite low down and isn’t that easy to see. I find it much easier just to glance at the buttons on my car’s steering wheel - if the red backlighting on steering wheel buttons is illuminated, I know the car’s lights have come on.

Never thought about checking the submarine lighting to know if the lights have come, nice tip.
