What engine is it?

I've just got a green panel filter for mine, its made the turbo louder - I think my stock air box is plenty for my engine.

No need to tell insurance about a new panel filter either, unlike a induction kit ;)

How do mate,

I to was worried about oiled filters and MAFs as iv got mates who have had possible trouble. Im now going for a Powertec induction system which is extra fine stainless mesh, completely oil free. A local tuning company (PSI Tuning) offer a similar alternative Quikshift Inductions which work on the same principle of 100% oil free, these are used on all their turbo conversions etc.

As the great man above said above. The stock system and paper filter is a vary good set up. THIS might be interesting reading to anyone thinking of buying a panel filter.

Very interesting and proves my thoughts when I used to have a panel filter in my old Leon. I had a Green panel filter but then went back to the OE ones as I felt changing them at every service (10K miles) made the car feel just as good. Over the time I owned the car, it worked our cheaper as well.

i was expecting some kind of table with results but this doesnt have that. I am not doubting his tests but seems vague.

Basically if the stock filter flows enough air for what is requested fitting a bigger/more free flowing filter is not going to make any real difference is it anyway. If you want to fit a panel filter so as to save cost over a long time fair enough but very little if any "performance gain" is going to be had.

I generally agree mike.

However of late i been thinking about keeping the engine cool in summer and thinking that maybe a CAI might be the way forward. Suppose i'd have to get a temp guage of time kind to see difference.

Your stock system is a CAI anyway? If you want to lower air inlet temps look at a FMIC.

The Leon FR has the FMIC ;)
Those tests aren't the most scientific, but under the same conditions the paper filter did let more air through, so i'm convinced. Plus there is the bonus of not having to worry about MAFs and filter oil.
I think i'll get a paper filter next week as i'm going to need some new wiper blades all round so might as well get the lot.

Yes however the 150PD intercooler is very efficient as it is. Without going big turbo there is no point..

I assume you left yours stock then with a standard paper filter? I am also keen to know why Allards sell CAI if the stock ones are so good...

The PD150 FMIC is very good and doesn`t need changing. The CDA airfilter is more for when you go hybrid turbo as a VT5 is twice the size of your stock turbo and can suck twice the air.
