Hi,

I am new to the modding scene and am trying to learn as much as possible!

I have seen a few bits about induction kits and understand teh basics of them but am really confused when it comes to Airboxes and Dynatwist.

What are these and in what area do they help? Can you have more than 1 of the above things at any one time?

Thanks

the airbox is the standard black plastic housing that your air filter sits in, when you fit an induction kit you generally remove this entire housing and fit either an open or closed cone filter. When you buy an induction kit like a dynatwist it will come with everything you need to do this like mounting brackets etc.

Have a search for "induction war" there is a thread with tonnes of information regarding these kind of kits.

Ok well dont be confused a dynotwist is a type of airfilter by green cotton and as for airboxes well your car will have one! Dependant on what model you have sometimes a k+n or green cotton panel filter in the original box is all thats needed.
The are lots of different schools of thought you could well be opening up a can of worms asking a qusetion like that.

Standard airboxes can be improved upon - this is called smoothing. It's a mid-way compromise between a standard box with performance element or the full box removal and induction kit installation.

Basically, from an un-biased perspective, the key is to keep things cool and flowing.

The smoothed airbox achieves this, without a doubt. The existing box prevents heat-soak from the hotter engine components/mechanicals, but you do lose the induction grunt/roar on acceleration. The bay looks standard, save for the higher diameter ducting running to the grills.

The induction kit will invariably suffer from a little heat-soak, purely because it's open to the elements. Combat this with a heat-shield, or a kit like BMC CDA.. that way you don't lose potential gains due to warmer inducted air.

I'm going to go down the smoothed airbox + larger ducting and green cotton panel filter route. Mainly because I'm more concerned about performance gains than noise.

Each to their own, at the end of the day.

Taken from.
