in process of changing rear pads. help!

hi there
my car is currently on axle stands and im in the process of changing the rear pads. the caliper is off and the pads are out. i just cant compress the piston back in. handbrake is off and brake fluid bottle is undone
any help asap

i got caught out with this on my golf last year,i think the pistons need to twisted round to compress them,cant remember what way :headhurt:

cheers for all you help guys, went to halfords and got one cost me 18.99
so just bought it
will now do tommorow

Generally, rear disk brake calipers contain separate mechanisms for footbrake and handbrake. The handbrake mechanism is mechanical and self-adjusts as the pads wear by the piston climbing up a screwed rod. When you come to fit new pads, the pistons have to be screwed back down those rods. That's why you can't just press the pistons back in, like you can with the front caliper.

It's not the only way of making a rear disk brake/handbrake combination, but it is common.
