Impact damage

Driving home from work this afternoon, noticed a strange smell from inside the car. Didn't think much of it as I'd just passed a team laying fresh tarmac. Got home and parked up not thinking much of it. About half an hour later, the wife came in saying the car was making a funny noise??? Went out to have a look and found the air con rad leaking gas like a good un!
Phoned the stealers to see whether it was still safe to drive and then took it in for them to have a look. Quoted me £500 to have the thing replaced, purged and refilled - Not Happy!
Just wondered if anybody else has experienced any similar problems with the size of the gaps in the new FL FR?
This is my second Leon and I had no other problems with my TDI Sport in the 3yrs I had it.
I would've thought SEAT could have put some kinda mesh behind the grill to stop this sorta thing happening. According to the Stealer, the early Alhambra's had similar problems!
Nine month old FL FR and £500 of repairs not covered by warranty.....

It's gonna be a nice Easter for the Stealer!

if its just the rad can you not get one fit it yourself and then get someone to top the system up ? you could get the parts from from sere motors. Since the system is already drained there shouldn't be any gas left to escape. I assume Stoneacre have quoted for the parts, just get a second opinion they wanted to charge me £75 for the black front grill which only cost's £30 and I have heard that they do overinflate prices a little.

YOu might have just been unlucky with a stone, it can happen.

I'd certainly get a second opinion, I had an air con rad replaced under an 'after market' warrenty on my old Astra, Vauxhall's price was £430 in 2007.

You could take it to another dealer and tell them the air con isn't very cool. Or try an independent VAG specialist if you have to pay.

I would find a decent independant for that job probably reduce the bill to £300ish???? I ould be annoyed to at 9 months old (

i know from personal experience that air con gas is poisonus just be careful

If you have a low excess and protected no-claims you can claim on your insurance if was caused by an impact etc.
