Ignition problem

Hiya,

Can anyone help me on this?

Quite often when I turn the key to start the engine, everything disappears from the dashboard display and the starter motor doesn't even seem to be alive. So basically I can't start the car. As the battery would be flat, but it's a new one and the multimeter says its on full power. Any help would be appretiated

Cheers

Its a 1.6i in a 1998 Cordoba.

Yup, both the milage and the clock dies completely and don't even come back. I can't even jump start it with the external battery. It can be bump started though and then the display comes alive again.

It does it every morning. What I do to avoid it, I disconnect the battery every time. Then it starts.

There's no F in Quality..
Worth trying the ECU Control Relay, had a similair problem on my '96 1.6 SX, it would constantly cut-out whilst driving with all the clocks etc going blank.

I think the relay is about £11 from Seat/VW. It's the one with '30' on it on your fuse board under the steering wheel.... take it in to Seat and ask for another one, they should be able to get the Part Number of it.

thanks for that! However there is no #30 on the relay panel. Or I can't see it. Probably it's another layout? I wouldn't have thought there is any difference between a '96 and 98' panel though...

Hm. Thanks for that anyway. I'll try to get a layout diag to see if where it's hiding...

I am in Bristol.
