My Ibiza used to shake a bit when idling, but stopped with the slightest touch of the accelerator pedal - so I tried increasing the idle speed slightly to see if it would fix it.

mine has exactly the same problem! not taking it to seat though, I know they'll do me for a set of injectors.

A slight vibration is normal. These vw diesel engines are not very refined and are rough. The vibrations will be amplified alot more in the beezer due to been a smaller car etc.

I guess they're talking of something else. I saw 130's with an open bonnet, standing at idle normally and suddenly the engine started to vibrate quite a bit more than normal,,,

Bilston.
Mine does exactly that.... just a very rough idle. Unless you got knackered mounts or something more sinister.
