Idiot Clutch & Short Shifter Question

I've been doing a few searches on short shifters & whatnot as I think my clutch is on the way out and if I'm going to have it replaced I might want to get a better rated clutch (as I ride them something chronic) and a short shiter too.
There's a lot of talk about the B&M being a bit of a bugger with "stretched cables", is this refering to the clutch cables? or what?
If I do get a new clutch at the same time as the shifter will I get new cables installed with the clutch by default so I dont have this problem?

No it refers to the cables that go from the gear stick to the gearbox.

The post i think your reading (from memory) was from someone who already had some probs shifting from 1st to 2nd cos his cables had stretched in which case a short shifter would make his probs worse.

Installing a B&M has nowt to do with changing a clutch. An exhaust maybe as it needs to be moved out of the way and heat sheilding removed.

aaaaah, so assuming I have no problems going 1st to 2nd at present, then I wont have any issues if I install an uprated clutch and short shifter?
Fair enough...if there is a problem I assume I can always go back and have new stick to box cables fitted. That's the selector lead IIRC? it fell out of my last car (long story).

If you have no probs shifting ATM then you won't after this mod.
How come you've ruled out the neuspeed / neuspeed replica s/s's? Easier to fit (10 mins job compared to 2-3hrs) and more reduction but too notchy for me. The b&m only reduces throw about 25-30% compared to the others.
Apparently there's a TT one out that keeps the reverse in the same place (push down instead of lift up) but i dont know if anyones tried one on a golf/leon.

I'm still happy with mine, havent actually driven the car since i fitted it though.

TBH I'm just going on the info from a couple of quotes I've had from JBS since there's no way I'm going to do any mechanical stuff myself lol.
I do kinda like the look of the knob & style of the B&M too tbh.

Fair enough, Jbs have ramps so they could prob do it a lot faster than you can manage at home!
I'd still think of doing it yourself. A copy of the official guide's over http://www.billswebspace.com/vwr32.htm half way down. It's quite straightfoward, if you can jack a car up you can do it yourself.

If you are getting JBS to do it i'd ask them to replace the gasket on the dp to centre section as you have to disconnect the exhaust here to move it out of the way and as it's crushable type shouldnt really be reused. (Only costs <£4 from stealer so may as well).

I'd give you a hand but have transport probs atm
