Yup as above but make sure you have a stash of cash for modding and repairing.
no point spunking all your cash on a motor then not being abole to drive it.

A very very good idea of how to spend your money.

I had a 106 GTI lowered 30mm and the handling was awesome, but a little short on power. But with throttle bodies and cams could get a very nice little track car out of it with 170BHP+

Id search on pistonheads for a 205gti, 106 gti, saxo vts,

Breathing mods and cams and a good set of springs and shocks and you will have a great time round track.

So you going for FWD not RWD then. If you are set on a 106 what about a Raylle version of the car.. Try to pick a car that came from the factory with the kind of stuff that you would want to stick on a trackday car. PS you mention racing in your post, what kind of racing are you looking at?? 750 motor club might be worth a look for you. They run a Golf GTI championship and the Group B 8v (i think) are very close to road cars. Also some championships have age limits so you need to take that into consideration.

Remember although the 205 is an awesome car and it is the engine had to be shoehorned in and working on it can be a pain in the ass.

You might even get one that been done, maybe look for a used SAXMAX championship car (not sure what they go for) or something similar.
