Ideal replacement component speakers with pioneer head unit?

Hi,

Just did my first DIY job installing a pioneer DEH-X6600BT and feel pretty proud! But I noticed straight away a loss in bass and general sound quality: with muffled bass and increased rattling in the car.

Was told I need new speakers. I'm not looking to get 6x9's or subwoofer; just looking to replace door speakers. What should I go for? And would I really need dynamat installed behind speakers?

Thanks,

T

Sorry if this sounds like a silly suggestion but I mean it in all seriousness. If you've just fitted the headunit, it might be worth messing with the bass/mid/treble settings, just in case the factory settings are badly suited to the speakers. You never know you may get it sorted for nothing! Good man on getting the stereo in btw :)

Thanks TDiPat,

I've indeed gone through the settings in detail over the past week and still been unsatisfied. So Halfords and a mate told me to get better speakers, and maybe an amp. As I've got the DIY bug now I'm hoping if it's the speakers or something else I need I do it myself. Looking for more suggestions...

Good man, DIY is the future! If you have the component speakers in your car (wee grilles up beside the wing mirrirs inside your door) I would get replacement uprated components. Basically a big speaker for mid/bass and tweeters for treble. Also you may need wee adaptors to get good sizes of speaker into your door.

hertz deici all the way, thats what fourmasters dealers use as budget speakers! perfect for running off the hu and you dont need to amp them!!! increased rattling could be the door card pin things have come loose...
play with the eq settings on the hu. i have basically the same one Pioneer DEH-X5600BT running with stock speakers at the moment and sounds way better than the stock one!
