Ibiza wiper problem

Basically since I've had the car the windscreen wipers will only work on the highest speed , and will not park. The rear however works fine. Really need to get this sorted !

Been told it could be the motor

Been told it could be the body control module

Been told it could just be a relay....


Could someone please tell me what's up?

Can't hurt to change the relay. A replacement from ebay should be pennies. There should be a fusebox guide in the mk4 faq section. Sometimes taking the relay out and giving it a whack on the pavement can 'unstick' it. In that case I'd still change it.

I'd start with checking the relay for the reasons stated above

It could also be the switch on the wiper stalk

Ideally you need to check the MVB to see if the motor is receiving a signal to run in the lower setting.

if the car motor is receiving this signal then It sounds as if the resistors have blown that limit the current to the wiper motor in order for it to operate at the lower speeds.

The relay is built into the convenience module so you can't simply change that. I would suggest looking at the stalk as mentioned.

I'm inclined to think it's the relay as the wipers don't park as well?

I'm going to a breakers today.. Can anyone tell me where the convenience module is in the car ?

Under the dash above the pedals.

Large black box about 15cm x 15cm with loads of plugs attached.

Changed out the module.... No luck motor or stalk next most likely culprit?

Still, several months on got the same problem... does the module need to be recoded?
