Ibiza TDI FR low rev horrible noise

Hi guys,

My Ibiza seems to have developed a nasty vibration type noise whilst accelerating at low revs. could almost be an exhaust type noise but im not sure.

Most noticable in 2nd 3rd and 4th. Does anyone know what this could be? it doesn't sound nice and my local garage just says

"yeah thats normal, happens to a lot of them" !!!!!! This sounds bloody odd to me.

Anyone had similar problems?

Where does it appear to be eminating from? So it goes away once over say 2000rpm? TDIs don't generally like being asked to accelerate with any passion from below 2000rpm, so not sure if the engine is shuddering a bit being asked to go some too low down?

Hard to pinpoint anything without knowing roughly where you think the noise is. Can you narrow it down to left/right/front?

When I first got my strut brace fitted by the dealership when accelerating hard sometimes created a vibration noise where it was hitting the engine cover.

Don't suppose you've got a strut brace have you?

I haven't got a strutbrace and i'm finding it difficult to pin point where the problem is coming from. Seems to be from under the car. It is literally up to about 2200 revs and only when i give it some. The sound does seem to come from under the car but im not sure.

Sisson what's DFM resonance? I'm not entirely up with the lingo sorry!

[Dual mass Flywheel] resonance... it happens when the car is put under too much load sometimes...

mine used to vibrate when a them revs, it was the hard plastic boostpipe in the engine bay on the left ratling against the fuel pump, have a look, i just cable tied mine together with a bit of foam between them..

I ruled out DMF vibration as it goes away when higher up the rev range, when power is greater. Unless it produces peak torque down at 1800rpm or less, in which case it could be torque shaking the flywheel a bit. My flywheel is preserved by peak torque coming in much higher at 2800rpm.

i got peak torque at 301 lb ft at 2500revs. so maybe not flywheel shaking?

loads of people have had this problem, me included.

Open the bonnet, just behind the driver's side headlight there is a solid plastic boost pipe that disappears downwards. Under engine movement they quite often touch the fuel filter housing (black plastic canister housing behind the headlight). Fix is to tape some foam either onto the pipe or the filter housing so they don't make a noise when they touch

Makes the car sound a lot more powerful than it is and becomes infuriating after a while

Matt al join the boat on this, garage said ooooh you got a strut brace yes that is your first point of call so i whacked some foam in there, it mostly went away ( the FR air box seems to be taller than the Sport one grr as my last car had no issues and nore has dan_diesel for clearance).

I get two types of noise, under rubbish acceleration like when i **** it up at slow speeds i get what sounds like summut to do with clutch rattle....DMF? and more commonly about 2k-2.5k the infurious resisence like a blown exhaust doh, mostly though 1st and 2nd.

I'll get it checked out as the cars only a month old, seems a FR is littered with issues....this time.

*sorry if i am repeating things, its 4am i have tooth ache n have been taking co-codinal tablets (so abit away with it)

I have this same sort of noise, but mine is a Golf TDI.

When I boot it hard, below 2000rpm; I get this shuddering and a horrible rattle/ on off hissing type of noise.

Any thoughts?
