Last week started our little 1.2S Mk 4, and squealing from cold start. A few blats of the gas pedal and it stopped. (A bit like this thread actually: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=31761).
Being a curious b*stard I had a poke about and noticed a fine oil mist on the front offside corner of the sump area which had also got onto the crankshaft pulley and the belt it was driving. Checked the oil which was at the low end of acceptable.
Next day oil service light came on after only doing 2.5k from last service (not oil warning buzzer, just the odometer one). Called SEAT and they said bring it in. Forecourt manager said: Oh yes, thats the Crankshaft Oil seal campaign, I think there is a recall on that. So the job was done, and it looks good enough - all oil is cleaned up, and it has removed a hesitance from the engine that once I thought was just a characteristic of an unruly 3 cylinder. May just be worth a check under the bonnet next time you open it - our cars has only done 13k on a 52 plate.
Much better now I hasten to add - thanks to SEAT Listers Coventry for a job well done!
