Ibiza Mk4 1.9 TDi oil change

5 weeks ago I had my Ibiza Mk4 TDi serviced and today the display started saying 'OIL' when i start the engine meaning the oil needs changing. I checked the dipstick and the oil is black and not see through at all. I appreciate that theese engines will make the oil go black quickly, but in 5 weeks? (about 1500 miles). And what triggers the display to say 'OIL'? does it detect that the oil has had it or is it automatic after a number of miles?

I'm going to call the place where I had it serviced tomorrow but thought I would get your opinions on here.

Thanks

On some VAG cars there is Variable servicing. This means the ECU monitors the condition of the oil and informs you when to change it. It can be up to 2 years when it gets served, depending on how you drive it and mileage. If you are on standard servicing it will display the type of service required, OIL is just an oil & filter change and INSP is a more thorough Inspection type service. These are done every 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first and alternate between the two.

I think the only reason this warning has come on is the service has been done in less than 11 months before you had yours done, ie 12 months ago from when it came on, so there is nothing to worry about. To reset this then RTFM the owners manual, I think is to do with holding the trip reset button down and turning the ignition on.
