Hi there,
has anybody had their ibiza mk2 ecu replaced for more power? I'm considering having it done, but would it be safe on an old car like mine? (1998, 95k miles)
any info or comments would be appreciated... cheers:)

I had a 1998 Ibiza TDI and modified it many years ago. Best money I ever spent on a car! Then I repeated the excercise with a little bit more besides on a 2000 model TDI Beezer. Only problem I can think of is the suspension which is not very good when the engine is standard, it will be woeful when the engine is modified. Just needs some decent gas shock absorbers really, plus maybe some second hand Cupra springs if you don't want to run to a full suspension kit, anti roll bars would be the icing on the cake. Makes a hell of a difference to the 90 bhp engine, believe me!

agreed the mileage is no worries at all on a diesel. have a search for upsolute they are good at remapping the older non PD TDIs.

Do upsolute do soldering jobs ??? i was under the impression that they had to send there ecus away for soldering.

This ecu has 2x plcc32 OTP eproms fitted or possibily 2x 28pin dill UV proms and will need removing from the pcb and sockets fitted for the new tuned chips to be installed.

Simon Coe, the UK Upsolute 'dealer' can do either soldered in chips or OBD downloads for most applications. I've had a few of his soldered chips with no problems, he's not a cowboy solderer! I trained as an electronics engineer in another life many eons ago and can vouch that he does a thorough job with the proper gear. It's not as if you have to worry about warranty issues either with a mk2 Beezer! But I think he seems to do mostly OBD tuning now - I'll ask him.

Just to add, I'm in Dorset - is there anybody locally who can do the work?

The only problem with getting it done any distance away, is that if you need to go back to get problems etc. fixed it can be a pain!

Yeah it's still around £300 and he will happily drop down to Dorset, usually when he has other work in that part of the country as this keeps his costs down. That's another handy side of this as he is always on the move he can visit again pretty quickly if there's any need to.
He visited me only yesterday in fact, and now my car goes a bit quicker.......:)
