ibiza handbrake light..

afternoon all , mk2 ibiza (gti 16v) is having a minor problem.

The handbrake light is staying on , sometimes it goes off on the odd occasion but usually comes back on seconds later.

I was wondering what this could possibly be ... number one in my head is some sort of handbrake switch which is faulty... would this be at all right ?

if so , does anyone have an etka number so i can order a new one from seat and is it difficult to swop / change ? im guessing no ......

There is a little switch below the handbrake lever so could be that sticking sounds funny but see if you can find it and loosen it with a touch of WD40 or something similar as this wont harm any of the electrics but if its bust i will see if can grab the number tomorrow.

right then , the sensor is working fine . The handbrake light then comes on when i start to drive though ........... i forgot to mention the car is kicking up an ABS fault and that is due to faulty wiring which is being remedied this week.

Could this be related aswell ?

my handbreak light came on due to the front abs sensors, for a while i short circuted the two connecting pieces under the rear seats and this fixed the problem, (to get through an mot), and when i replaced the abs sensors problem was gone.

im guessing it is the abs sensor then , its being fixed this week so hopefully all will be ok . ...

I just bought a mk 1 and have the same knocking (from the front end) and handbrake light on from yesterday. Any clue what I should check first?
