ibiza fr tdi uneven ride height?

hey all,

just bought a new ibiza fr tdi and mine is sitting lower on the drivers side than passenger side. measured with flat bar sitting on the tyre then measured gap to the arches. its 5mm lower at drivers side front than passenger side and 8mm lower at drivers rear side than passengers. was thinking this could be down to engine offset and extra weight of steering column on same side? any one out there got same model with the same problem? going to go to dealers tomorrow and measure one in garage to check it out.

many thanks.

It should sit pretty level so either you've parked on uneven ground or you have a problem. One thing you might check is to see whether they've left the transport blocks in the suspension as you say it's new.

its sitting on level ground and checked for blocks but none visible in the springs.

Was thinking some slightly bent/out of line chassis construction but it cant be seeing as the car is brand new.

The engine sits more to the drivers side. Its probably the weight in that.

I found that when fitting the coilovers. My drivers side had to be higher than the passenger to be level. And i fitted them on a very flat surface.

it is known for the coil springs to brake (in cold weather for some reason )

I would look at the corner that is low and investigate a broken coil spring

all the springs are looking good, think it could be a general problem with all of the fr tdis just because of the extra weight that the drivers side front spring has to cope with, going to dealership today to measure the heights of another fr tdi today. would appreciate if anyone out there has same model as me that hasnt been modded to check theirs out and let me know how theirs is sitting. visually its hard to tell so need to use the measuring gear!

welcome to scn jocklad75

go and measure a fellow model if all the lazy scn'ers wont measure their tdi fr's for you :snack: :ban: if diffrent to yours get your motor up on an axle stand remove the o/s/f wheel and have a good look around the suspension with a bright lamp just to be sure :)

kind of difficult to measure, I measured between the tyre, mine are low profile Michelins, to the wheel arch (not the inside the actual wing part I mean) it was about 2 half inches both sides but it was difficult to be accurate as the tyre sits in from the wheel arch!

thanks for trying aimez, i just sat a flat bar on top of the tyre so it stuck out by the arch and measured from the bar to the top of the arch with a ruler. mines only 5mm different heading to garage in bout an hour and see what their new one is like.

if your measuring each side to see if the car is sitting level, why not measure from the floor to the wheel arch

then alloy / tyre size isn't a factor ;)

My ride height was quite far out but it was on opposite corners i.e drivers front and passengers rear were lower than the other corners. I took it to seat and they said that there are certain tolerances in the chassis and mine is basically a rubbish one lol. I think polos and golfs will get the cream of the crop whilst us seats owners get 2nd rate.

Atleast its been corrected now with my coilovers :)
