Yello there!

Jost posting to let you know what I think of my new Mk3 Cupra. Picked her up this afternoon - long drive away but got a chance to enjoy her on the way back...6 hours of ownership and I've done 182 miles already! :p

Completely standard 2001, Y reg, 2 owners from new and 22,300 miles on the clock now...she drives tip top! Going to give her a good wash tomorrow and will post some pics. She's certainly immaculate inside and looks the same outside but will get intimate during the wash. :p

I was surprised she's geared higher than my Golf, but that's good news on the motorway... 70 mph 2nd gear @ 6,500rpm!

Quite nippy considering it's only 156bhp, was surprised. Also turbo kick in is smooth enough...mapping to come in 3 or 4 months maybe.

Firm ride but very decent body roll from stock. Only complaints are...no light in glovebox and no light in boot and the foot rest is too far forward I find (common in lots of new cars actually). Oh and no oil temp from computer, would of been very simple to do at factory...so a gauge is due in the future...though still deciding if it's a bit chav. ;)

All in all, a very good car...very happy.

Question: The driver's wing mirror is bigger than the passengers. Is that normal on all? it certainly gives more viewing angle which is good. I like the little one though! Might have to get one from a spanish car...

Flash me if you see me...catch me if you can! :p

Hello mate and welcome.

Glad your happy with your motor sounds very, very good for the mileage!!

The p/s wing mirror is normal so dont worry. If your not happy with them being different have a search on here mate as you can get either replaced to match.

Where abouts are you in the country?

Why you asking? Are you a thieving arab? :p

(I'm spanish we don't do political correctness - so I apologise in advance...)

I'm in the East Midlands chap...going back down south tomorrow for a seminar and instructors training so I'm looking forward to spending more time in her! (lol another controversial statement...). :D

Might put some Seat Sport OZ's on in the future too...not much I want to do to her but whatever it is it'll keep very close to the factory look. Still trying to decide if it's worth colour coding the bumper strips...

So I found a minter and now I'm going to put 18k miles a year on it! She's still nameless but I might call her Enterprise...like the starship...becuase she'll have the same miles after 4 years... :D

Catch you if we can.... but your standard?!

Catching wont be an issue... soon you'll want a remap!! I jumped up 50bhp from my Golf to the Beeza, and I only lasted 7 months before getting REVO...

Spent nearly £2K on her now.. but worth every penny!

hi matey, am glad your happy with ur car. i ad the same issue when i first got mine, WHAT'S WITH THE MIRRORS!!! it sounds like you do martial arts. what do u do? i am also from the east midlands (hinckley) and also do martial arts (wing chun). i've got a blue mk3 ibiza cupra thats been re-mapped by awesome gti. you will notice that the car is completely different when u av re-mapped it. mine takes off a 3 thousand revs and just keep pulling. i av also got some ebc drilled and grooved discs with redstuff pads up front and greenstuff pads at the back. they av got me out of prouble on a couple of occasions :D

we should meet up and i'll take you out in my re-mapped cupra?

Thanks chaps - glad to see you are ok with the humour... you can't beat a little banta. :p

So far happy with the car. Thanks for mentioning the boot light, I read it in a post too, was surprised it wouldn't have one! Need to fix it, hopefully it's just the bulb and nothing to do with the boot switch.

My Mk3 Golf is a 16v and pulls about 165bhp hence the Ibiza isn't really faster. Probably a little quicker low speed and recovery in high gear at low rpm (torque). Above 90mph it's a different story.

Feels nicer mainly becuase it's got 115k miles less! I have to say I was surprised it's ok down low, before ~2,200rpm where the turbo appears to kick in. Was thinking I'd miss the bigger displacement, but no.

Otherwise, it's all good. I have a crack in the windscreen, must of been there when I viewed it but didn't see it (it's at the base in between the wipers). It's got bigger over the past 2 days so I'll fork out £60 to get it changed - any recommendations on windscreens? Autoglass or RAC?

TC Cupra - I'm based north of Leicestershire but work just outside Leicester itself - not far from Hinckley! I do like my martial arts :p
I too am a Wing Chun practioner, I run the Loughborough club of our association.

(Message to thief: If you're planning to nick my car, be prepared for a can of woppass) :D

On a serious note, I think I'll enjoy her as standard for 2 or 3 months, but would like to have a spin in a mapped one, so I might take you up on the offer! :p No doubt I'll do it at some point, 240 ft lbs... :)

One question, I've read that older Mk3 Ibizas had a seal on the front side of the engine bay / bonnet. Can this be retrofitted on my 2001 car? Thought it would be good at stopping grime and water to the battery fuse box / engine.

I'll post some pics soon. Washed her Sunday morning and she's filthy again after 500 miles!

Oh, mpg calculated by on board computer seems out. Managed 36mpg on a long drive back, 31 mpg into work this morning, ~20 mile drive. Does this drive of a vacuum hose? In Mk3 Golf's they leak and send the mpg out. Maybe it is ok, just checking.

Lol, no offence taken mate...and FYI I'm no thief!!! Just interested if I should look out for you in the area.

Just a note about the MPG question - it's one of the quirks of the Ibiza as it never really seams to be right............may be its just me!

LOL...no problemo dude! I'll look out for you, try to keep up around the corners. She's standard...it's just sheer skill when you ask yourself why you can't manage... :bleh:

Joking aside, see you on the black stuff! Jizz.
