Ibiza 1.9TDi Sport - noob question

Hi there,

As of Saturday I am going to be the proud owner of a 52 plate platinum grey Ibiza 130 TDi Sport with 45k on the clock, which will be my first VAG car! Goes without saying that Jabba will be getting my business as I think a remap is in order in a couple of months time :D

Chopping in my beautiful bright red 03 plate Celica for it due to a baby on its way :) Loving the idea of being a dad, but the car is my pride and joy so Saturday morning will hurt! I'm trying to cheer myself up by thinking of all the things I can tinker with to make it go faster.

Firstly, Jabba offer a custom-remap and a standard 'map & go' service for the car. I could understand if I had an LCR, but will paying the extra 100 notes make alot of difference in terms of performance gain for this car and is it worth it?

I like the suttle sporty look so am planning on getting the 16" FR alloys for it and want a drop of 25/30mm all round for which I am going to get some Eibach springs. Will I need to change the shocks as well or will just changing the springs eventually knacker everything else as well?

Apologies if these are really noob questions, I work in computers and usually leave mechanics to the experts! Grateful for any comments.

the custom maps are designed for people with varying mods..allowing you to maximise what you have... for a basic standard car go map and go

as for lowering...the ride is kinda harsh i think anyway....i'd leave it near stock other wise mother and baby wont be happy!

i have a tdi sport :D

the ride onth standard suspension was really hard when driving "sensibly" ;) ,
but the body roll resembled a boat[:@]

i have had a koni adjustable sports kit fitted (also get the cupra TDi wishbone bushes fitted ;) ( search ) at the same time as the standard ones are made from foam! [:@] ) and the body roll is well under control whilst the ride comfort is loads smoother, but i have a lot more confidence with staying on the tarmac!
can't reccommend them enough!:clap:

Coilovers are expensive, and I have cots and prams to buy so not wanting to spend too much on it, hoping for a less expensive way of improving the handling abit. For a cheaper alternative, should I invest in a rear ARB and Cupra bushes at the front?

Coilovers are a waste of time if you want to retain any sort of comfort, but a good set of shocks n springs will see you right - should improve the ride quality a bit as well as the handling

i think youre on the right steps mate...mines going on the floor with coilovers, wide ass rims, and thats purely because its normally only me in the car...

my bestfriend is in the same situation as you...so he's selling his decked clio 172 to buy himself either a bora or leon in attempt to be a bit more sensible.

do keep us updated though, as it sounds like you've got the right ideas :)

my coilovers feel fine :( but theyre not praticle as speed bumps are a bit of a pain and can be (bit!) bumpy over bumps a set of eibach springs will lower the car but will evenually murder your standard shocks as for the remap id personally pay the bigger price tag and get a map from CustomCode or Revo the pd130 should keep you happy!

I sold my Ibiza due to expecting a baby...

The pram didnt fit in the boot!!!

The ride was mega harsh on coilovers, so took them off and was still too harsh... missus was getting bad back pains

Road noise was really loud.

So i sold it.

Hope you have better luck than me.

Yeah me too as I've already bought it now :)

Celtic Tuning seem to offer a professional and quality service, seem to get good comments about them when doing a search, are they used much?
 
When you going forn the remap, i got mine revo'd when it had less then 500 miles on the clock as i was not happy with the performance having downgraded from a WRX and so couldn't wait (please note car was full warmed and gradually exercised before exploring the power delivery even thought such low millage - imo the best way to run car in). Have to say though it was the best mod i have ever done and so sugest you get it maped asap and you'll be grinning:D

Hopefully going to get it next month, perhaps the month after at the latest. The Ibiza *feels* faster than my Celica because of the turbo powerbands, the Celica's power didn't kick in until about 4500rpm, so wasn't accessible without ragging the nuts off it. The Ibiza's power is alot more accessible, so on the test drive it felt pretty good. Not going to be able to resist holding off the remap though ;-)

Went down the Seat garage earlier to pass over my insurance certificate so they can tax it for me to pick it up in the morning and asked if they could change the front wishbone suspension bushes to Cupra ones for me. They said they were happy to do that, for a 3 hour labour change (£262.00). Does that sound about right? I haven't taken them up on their fabulous offer... all I want is the car to be abit stiffer round corners. I've seen a rear ARB on Jabba's website for £210, should I just get this and be done with it?

vrs anti roll bar would definatly help as your arb is 19mm thick and the vrs is 21mm thick! spacers for the rear was 1 of the best handling mods ive bought

You haven't had it yet and you want to change things. Just drive it for a few weeks and get used to it. Then if anything needs changing, you can do it. You might like it as it comes.....you never know! ;)

True word's I suppose. When I test drove the Ibiza last week I did notice abit of roll, I am used to the handling on the Celica which is really firm but I guess the best thing to do would be to see how I feel about it in a couple of weeks. Then I'll know exactly what I want to tweak.

as stated a few posts earlier I speak from experience, i sold my WRX and bought the bezza fr tdi, the body roll is an issue for me but i can live with that, the power differance was fustrating i couldnt live with it which is why with less the 500 mile on the clock it ad to have a remap. With the remap have no regrets, i miss the sound and on a long straight i miss the revs but on the whole PD130 with a remap has ideal power delivery

I picked up the car this morning, walking away from my Celica this morning I felt so low :cry: I couldn't believe what I was doing...

That was of course until I took it out for a proper spin :p I had a proper rag round , sadly the rain how now spoiled my fun as its getting abit slippery out there. All I have to say is.. Celica? What Celica? :happy:

This car has some serious pace, I couldn't of course 'experience' this fully on the test drive with the Seat bloke next to me. The best bit of it all is I've been hammering it this morning and my trip computer tells me I haven't gone below 44mpg. My brother in law is so impressed with it he's down the Seat garage right now trying to trade in his wifes Peugeot 206 CC for an Ibiza Cupra TDi :lol: I'll keep you posted!

This thing is going to be an animal when its remapped!! I hate the mirrors as they are black plastic, does anyone know where I can get some chrome or colour coded covers to go with the car? Do the covers pop off quite easily? If so I could spray them up myself.
