Ibiza 1.8 20VT from Civic DOHC VTEC

Hi all,

I am going to look at an Ibiza Cupra 1.820VT tomorrow, I am in Manchester and the car is in Newcastle so its a bit of a journey. The car has full Seat service history apart from the last one which the trader did. The car is on 55K miles.

Could you guys let me know what top look out for? I dont know anything about these cars as I have owened Honda VTEC's for the past few years.

A little about me, I have owned three Civic's one of which is the 1.8 VTI 170BHP. However my friend has a Leon 1.8 20VT which was remapped by Awesome GTI and it flys [B)] I want something with low down torque so I am looking at these Ibiza's. If anyone knows it I have been a member of Honda Revolutions for a couple of years and have over a thousand posts so its good to see a Seat site too.

Anyways, if you guys could let me know what to look for I would much appreciate it being a Seat noob

Cheers

Chris [B)]

Hey... welcome dude...

I used to hang round with Sammy a bit. Used to have a Delsol. Not as good as hers of course.. Or Phils NSX LOL!

The VTI's are nice. But they are getting a little old now. This site is much like the HondaRev's lots of top people and no :w4nk:ers which im sure you will recognise is a good thing.

Hope to see you positing soon. And good luck with your Beeza search!

Just to update the above I have more info on the car I am looking at tomorrow.

All history with Rusty's Seat (anyone know these guys?)

Air meter @ 38K (is this the MAFF?)
Water pump replaced @ 38K
still has 2 keys
RAC warranty with it

Thanks.

Chris.

Was Phil polishing the NSX with nappies and cotton bud like he usually does? :roflmao:

Last I heard Phil and Sammy were splitting up... Heard anything about that?

Who are you looking to buy the Beeza from?

Hi mate, not sure about Phil and Sammy, dont know them enough to ask, I know Sammy still has her NSX though.

The Ibiza's at a Traders in Newcastle, going to look at it tomorrow, sounds like a gooden.

What do you drive then? Do you know of anything I should be looking out for on this car?

Sammy's NSX? :roflmao: Thought it was supposed to be Phil's.

Sorry, I know nothing about Beeza's, drive a Leon myself. I would start a new thread, sample place you started this one, but remove the civic reference.

Be VERY specific about the car you are looking at and the car you want, the guys on here are VERY helpful and know their stuff.

Just make sure you use the search button before you post obvious threads, or be prepared to take the "flaming".

:clown:

Nice move mate :)

I came from a tuned 2000 Civic VTI and a tuned Integra Type R (DC2) to my Ibiza R...still miss the Integra though :(

Check the vacuum hoses for cracks... they've a tendancy of solidifying over time.
Give it a good drive and check for hesitation/misfiring... I doubt they would but they might reset any error codes prior to you turning up. If you can get them to plug in and show you there are no fault codes (not that that would guaranty there's nothing wrong with it though) MAF sensors/N75 valves wouldn't necessarily pull up faults if they weren't right.
Check the usual stuff as well, oil, wheel bearings, tyre wear, bodywork, brake wear, blah, blah blah.
On 55k I'd say it won't be far off wanting suspension and new top mounts, depending on it's useage. (but then I can be a little picky!)
Yep the Air flow meter is the MAF (Mass Air Flow meter)
The electrics are normally fine, but the window switches sometimes pack up. Worth checking.

Hope this helps and welcome.

Thanks mate, buying a car is a nightmare, so worried I will buy a dog :help:

Need to try and justify wether its worth the journey or not and he wants a little more than what the car is worth but they are hard to come by I guess.

Hi Martyn, recognise those pics, the Integra pic is somewhat famous now! [B)]

Let me know what you thing of the Ibiza compared to the Civic IE handling low down torque, etc etc

Cheers.

ditto, 60k interval on the timing belt, circa £350 for a dealer change.

mines due soon, but with age rather than mileage.

other things to look for, include looking at the ECU area, if the screws are tampered with, chances are its either chipped or been chipped (minus software remap uploads).

theres one on the seat website at the moment with 23k on the clock for 6995.

Damn, how could I forget the timing belt, its a 2000 model with 55K, does it need doing now do you think or in 5K's time, if the latter I can live with that.

its usually changed at around 60k, but if i was buying a car with that mileage, i'd get it done straight away, you dont know how hard the engine's been driven, so better sooner than later imo.

Lol, I never knew it would get to that, got some others I took too...all of them rock :)

Unfortunately the Ibiza's handling isnt a patch on the Civic but the power in the Ibiza is alot more usable...more so when remapped....did love the VTEC though.
